HOLY OBEDIENCE

In the 1950’s this child ate a hotdog on Good Friday and did so knowing it was serious matter to do so and he did it with full consent of the will and with forethought and planning as he decided to do it on Holy Thursday during the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper.

As he took the last bite, he choked on it and died. To this very day his immortal soul is burning in the eternal fires of hell, thus no need to pray for his immortal soul or seek any indulgences for him on All Souls’ Day:

When I was a child and the church had the strict Friday abstinence each Friday and under the pain of mortal sin if one willfully ate, for example, a hotdog, that person would go to hell if unrepentant prior to death, even a sudden death.

My Protestant friends would ridicule such an idea that eating a hotdog on Friday would send one’s immortal soul to hell if one did so willfully.

Well, of course, even in elementary school I knew that it wasn’t the hotdog that sent me to hell, but my willful disobedience of the Church and its proper authority over me in her faith, morals and canon laws.

The mortal sin was/is disobedience towards the Church and her rightful leaders, the pope, bishops in union with him and priests and nuns in union with the pope too.

Thus, who knows what Summorum Pontifcum II will bring when released and rumor has it that Pope Francis will release it on Friday, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

But as for me and my household, we will be obedient to Holy Mother Church and the Vicar of Christ even if we disagree with the document and even if we think eating a hotdog on Good Friday is perfectly moral.

The joke is told of two priest friends who met at the gates of hell following a tragic car accident in which both were killed.

Fr. Jones says to his friend, "I'm surprised to see you here! What on earth did you do to end up in hell?"

Fr. Smith responds, "Well, I have to admit I led a double life. You see, I stole regularly from the collection, taking almost a quarter of a million a year. I bought a house at the shore, played the horses, got involved with loan sharks, but eventually paid them off. I kept a mistress at the shore house with our kids. I deserve to be here..."

Smith then asks Jones, "So why are YOU here."

Jones, with a disappointed look on his face, responds, "I skipped Evening Prayer last Monday..."

We had a jingle as kids...

Oh, I'm glad I'm not an Oscar Meyer weiner
That is what I wouldn't want to be
Cuz if I were an Oscar Meyer weiner
There would't be a danged thing left of me.

And, of course...

You may already be a weiner!!!

The rumor-has-it release time for the rumor-has-it new document has come and gone several times.

Father McDonald said..."But as for me and my household, we will be obedient to Holy Mother Church and the Vicar of Christ..."

Father McDonald is a holy example to us in regard to the manner in which God has compelled Catholics to form their hearts and minds.

The God-pleasing reaction to the exercise of Pope Francis' Magisterium is to obey the following from Vatican II:

"This religious submission of mind and will must be shown in a special way to the authentic magisterium of the Roman Pontiff, even when he is not speaking ex cathedra; that is, it must be shown in such a way that his supreme magisterium is acknowledged with reverence, the judgments made by him are sincerely adhered to, according to his manifest mind and will."

==========================================================================================

In opposition to Father McDonald's holy response in question, certain "traditional" Catholics have announced in Satanic fashion that they will mutiny against Pope Francis in regard to his supposed upcoming Summorum Pontificum-related moto proprio.

Example:

Peter Kwaniewski declared last week that in regard to Pope Francis' supposed "machinations" against Summorum Pontificum, Catholics must summon "the necessary strength to ignore or to oppose what the Vatican might do to reduce or prevent the celebration of the classical Roman rite."

Peter Kwaniewski, and his ilk, prefer to stand with Satan as Kwaniewski & Company will "...ignore or to oppose..." God and Holy Mother Church.

Anyway...Deo gratias for Father McDonald, and his holy example in regard to his determination to remain with God.

Is it a mortal sin to miss Mass on a Holy Day of Obligation? Well, it depends where you are. In England, Epiphany is obligatory whereas in Scotland it is not. These decisions are made by national episcopal conferences which in themselves have no juridical authority, yet we are supposed to believe they can condemn people to hell.

If I lived in Berwick-on-Tweed (England) I could save my soul by simply crossing the river into Scotland.

It's palpable nonsense.

Rules Rules Rules.

Reality is greater than ideas.

Isn’t that what Francis keeps bellowing.

So he forbids the ancient Mass. So what.

Priests all over the world REFUSE to offer the Mass as revised by Vatican II as printed in the Missal. And NOTHING is done about it. I have never been to one ‘new” Mass where the priest followed the missal to the letter. Something is always added, removed or changed. But I have never attended a Tridentine Mass where that was done. The are always celebrated as the Church prescribes.

One of his own cardinals is ‘allegedly’ caught while participating in a drug fueled homosexual orgy in the Holy Office building itself…..which was busted by the Italian police. Nothing is done.

Francis calls out of retirement a Cardinal from Belgium who encouraged a man who was sexually abused by his uncle who is a bishop, the be a main participant on a Synod on the Family……and nothing is done. Every bishop and Cardinal is silent.

He surrounds himself with ‘alleged’ practicing homosexual bishops nothing is done.

He humiliates publicly orthodox cardinals and nothing is done.

He scandalizes on a daily basis faithful Catholics and could care less. And nothing is done.

He participates in a worship service to a pagan idol in thenVatican itself and nothing is done.

He brings statues of Luther into the Vatican and nothing is done.

The list of scandals is endless and nothing is done. Not one bishop or priest has the backbone or the Faith to denounce his actions. So I say….so what. So what he bans the Traditional Mass. ignore him like he ignores the thousands of faithful Catholics who begged him to defend marriage.

To the Protestants, especially Fundamentalists, your hot dog story sounds like salvation by works. "If I had just not eaten that hot dog" or "if I had just said 1 more Hail Mary"....

No doubt Mark Thomas would stand on his head and recite the Pater Noster in Hindoostani if the pope told him to, but a cursory reading of Church history shows that popes make misguided and even disastrous decisions, and making exaggerated claims for papal authority, whether it be Gregory VII in the 11th century or Pius X in the 20th, tends to backfire.

Summorum Pontificum does not mandate anything. It is based on the principle that valid and legitimate rites cannot be suppressed by papal fiat, nor have they ever been. Bugnini had attempted to challenge this, but was given the bum's rush.

So even assuming that PF wants to suppress rites older than 1970, he cannot do so. Paul VI, in attempting to impose a single rite of his own devising, was clearly acting ultra vires. The classic Roman Rite exists sui generis, and will continue to exist long after Paul VI's and Francis's papacies have been judged by historians as the disasters they undoubtedly were (and are).

Back in the 60s and 70s the Latin Mass Society in England and Wales campaigned for the so-called Tridentine Mass when circumstances were by no means auspicious. Yet it did not set itself up in opposition to the bishops, but worked with them, and this strategy has paid off.

PF can do what he likes, but interest in traditional liturgical practice will continue to grow.

John Nolan said..."No doubt Mark Thomas would stand on his head and recite the Pater Noster in Hindoostani if the pope told him to..."

The Pope, of course, would not tell me to do that.

Your premise is absurd.

But you declared the above to promote the notion that Papal teaching may be unreliable.

Your false premise justifies, at least in your mind, any mutiny that you would launch against Papal teaching.

That is why you followed..."No doubt Mark Thomas would stand on his head and recite the Pater Noster in Hindoostani if the pope told him to..."

...with the following:

"...a cursory reading of Church history shows that popes make misguided and even disastrous decisions, and making exaggerated claims for papal authority, whether it be Gregory VII in the 11th century or Pius X in the 20th, tends to backfire."

Mister Nolan, the mutineer you admire greatly, Peter Kwaniewski, beat you to the punch last week, when he declared that in regard to Pope Francis' supposed "machinations" against Summorum Pontificum, Catholics must summon "the necessary strength to ignore or to oppose what the Vatican might do to reduce or prevent the celebration of the classical Roman rite."

That is what you had meant to have said.

Oh Lawdy, the Mark-thing has arrived, complete with his handy dandy somebody-else's searchable database of out-of-context hand-cherrypicked quotes supporting any liberal cause for only $9.95, so that YOU, dear reader, can appear learned and wise, with an unlimited moneyback guarantee minus $15.95 shipping and restock fee.

I am suprised his reply did not include an interminable shopping list of at least 47 quotes supporting his point that being a mutineer under any and all circumstances is ALWAYS a mortal sin and even heresy, and worse yet, automatically revokes one's subscription to National Catholic Reporter, Your Independent Of Catholicism News Source.

Am also suprised no saccharine cloying list of honorifics for Defender of Life Holy Pope Francis, Holy Slapper Women, and Curial Refuge of Those Charged With Sex Crimes.

I mean what I say, nothing more, nothing less. I do not need you to interpret 'what I meant to have said'.

Your notion that popes are 'oracles of God' whose every word and action is divinely inspired is not only contradicted by history but constitutes material heresy.

Paul VI's 'Ostpolitik' may have arisen from the best of motives but had baneful consequences - the shameful treatment of Cardinal Mindszenty is notorious, but the infiltration of the Church by Communist agents of influence was the direct result of a misguided policy. The position of Catholics behind the Iron Curtain did not improve.

And that's within living memory. There's another two millennia to draw on.

Two things of note, obedience isn't blind. One isn't obliged to obey things that are unmoral.

There are more issues of prudential judgement than not, and I don't. believe that one should be suspended because on an issue of judgement one came to a different conclusion than the popular narrative.

Yeah. Right. Okay. Now, back to reality.

Should Pope Francis teach in regard to Summorum Pontificum, then, as God's Holy People, we are compelled to obey His Holiness.

God has formed Pope Francis to teach, govern, and sanctify us.

Thanks to the promise of Jesus Christ, Pope Francis defends, and promotes, the True Faith.

Mister Nolan, I will stand with the Vicar of Christ, Pope Francis. I pray that you will stand with holy Pope Francis.

Cardinal Ercole Consalvi, Secretary of State of pope Pius VII, said to Napoleon who threatened to destroy the Church: "You will not succeed, your majesty. Not even we [priests, bishops and cardinals] had been able to do that".

I have enjoyed the Francis Papacy because we get to watch the rats and roaches run around in the light. One by one we crush their skulls with each Latin Mass and Rosary. Every time Francis says or does something stupid, I give a little more to the poor; say a Rosary; attend a Latin Mass; handle a pro bono case. He can’t out liberal me at my profession. I’m a better Catholic because of Francis. I am obedient to Holy Mother Church even unto death.
