A statement from the Diocese of Covington and Covington Catholic High School

On Monday afternoon the Covington Police alerted us that they had intelligence concerning a planned protest, Jan. 22, at Covington Catholic High School and a vigil at the Diocesan Curia. Due to threats of violence and the possibility of large crowds the Diocese was advised to close Covington Catholic High School, the Diocesan Curia and neighboring Covington Latin School. We thank law enforcement officers for their protection and will reopen when they say it is safe to do so.

Concerning the incident in Washington, D.C., between Covington Catholic students, Elder Nathan Phillips and Black Hebrew Israelites the independent, third-party investigation is planned to begin this week. This is a very serious matter that has already permanently altered the lives of many people. It is important for us to gather the facts that will allow us to determine what corrective actions, if any, are appropriate.

We pray that we may come to the truth and that this unfortunate situation may be resolved peacefully and amicably and ask others to join us in this prayer.

We will have no further statements until the investigation is complete.

You mean after you threw your boys under the bus on the altar of political correctness? Aren't you the least bit suspicious when the narrative comes from the Catholic Church's natural enemy, the US Press, you know, the Press that LOVES Abortion, Gay Marriage, Transgender Bathrooms, and wants the Catholic Church to butt out of the public square?

TJM,

I would have said our bishops are administrators protecting their institutions, rather than shepherds protecting their sheep, but I think you're more accurate: they're pagan priests offering child sacrifice to the media god.

Did no one in the ocean office consult with the adult chaperone leaders before condemning the children? Another way these bishops do not protect the young entrusted to their care. Censoring the students first, then investigating is a little ass backwards isn't it?

I suppose one can take comfort that a bus is being used to run over the faithful rather than a papal ford focus.

Right now apologies really don't mean much of anything coming from the Bishops'

These completely innocent and brave kids deserve a full retraction and apology from the bishop of Covington and the school principal for their shameful, horrible pile on attack. Am sick to death to the hate filled, toxic identity politics of the left and the kowtowing of the elitist right to the same that is destroying all decency in America. This attack on the kids was racist, sexist, ageist (bullying of children), anti-Catholic and politically hyper partisan. And no, I do not buy the canard that one cannot by definition be racist, sexist or religiously bigoted against whites, males or Christians. If only American liberals would follow MLK and judge people by the content of their character and not the color of their skin...

I should probably add classist and regionally biased to the list, given so many of the attacks on the boys were by relatively affluent bicoastal elites (including our fake Indian senatrix from Massachusetts).

This statement actually is a hopeful sign.

Here's how this looks to me.

The first statement was rash. Instead of what they actually did, the diocese and school ought to have issued a statement something like this: i.e., saying, we don't know the facts, but we're very concerned, and we will find out. Stay tuned.

But having made their first mistake, now what? The next best move is to say nothing until you are reasonably sure you won't have to issue yet another embarrassing correction. Something like this latest statement.

While I think the Covington boys are most likely mostly innocent, and deserved way, way better than they got, I can also understand that the bishop and the school want more information than I have at this point. They really should have more information than I have, in order to handle this right going forward.

So that means, if you issue any sort of second statement at this point, it looks like this. And you do a really full investigation, so that if you either have to eat your earlier words, or if you have to discipline anyone viewed sympathetically, you have a better basis.

In short, this statement isn't the problem; it's the prior one. This is what the first statement ought to have said.

Fake catholics who post here, are you proud of your Party (the Abortion Party) now?

This is why the Dems need illegal aliens, to augment their diminishing voter pool caused by abortion
