SUNDAY MORNING HOLY MASS AT NATIVITY OF OUR LADY CHURCH IN DARIEN, GEORGIA…

I had a great time celebrating Holy Mass at Nativity of our Lady Church at 10 am. It is a beautiful country church in Darien, Georgia. It is a mission of St. Francis Xavier Church in Brunswick. A traveling couple from Buffalo going to S. Florida were there. They are Episcopalians and just happened onto the church. Simple but stunning stained glass windows. The church was completed in the 1940’s.

Very tasteful church. Love the windows. Love the reredos. If newer, nicely done.

What I like about that reredos is its simplicity yet it adds a satisfying richness to the space. It couldn't have been costly to build and yet it is permanent, in proportion and isn't one of those irritating stands/towers so many churches now have for the tabernacle. It gets the annoying pile of flowers off the floor as well so that those who donated for them can actually see/enjoy them. This space enjoyed some good and tasteful planning.

I missed the age of this church building in your narrative as the photos of the sanctuary look so fresh. That said, what is directly behind the reredos, the door to the sacristy? My sense is this parish put some thought into these renovations if they are more recent, however, the reredos needs a dwarf wall behind it to hide that doorway. Even an ornamental grate with curtains would work. I've seen these in brass and they're very nice and are often just decorated with one color of drapery - not switching per season though that would be an option as well.

Yes. That’s the sacristy door and yes it could easily be hidden as you say. Why hasn’t it? Your guess as good as mine.
