Mary, Mother of God

The Sun, which sustains life on earth without which it would not exist, has two natures, heat and light which are bound together, though being different in nature, but which we receive as one.

The Son of God who likewise sustains us through His Body and Blood, also has two natures, human and Divine which are bound in an inseparable unity hypostatically joined, comprising one Person. The Blessed Virgin gave birth to Him we affirm as being God joined to a human nature, and this is why we honor her as the Mother of God, as one who gave birth to this one Person, who is both human and Divine. It is right that we venerate her because in doing so, we give honor and glory to God. In this way we please Him and so also the Holy Virgin, bound spiritually to God in a special way, and with her love for us, is likewise pleased. .

It was through the Blessed Virgin that Christ was physically born, and it is through Him, by way of her conceiving and giving birth to Him, that we are spiritually born and initiated into Divine life through the water of Baptism.

We should ever invoke her spiritual assistance and submit ourselves to her in her Holy Motherhood so that, just as Christ was physically born to her and so submitted Himself in obedience to her in accordance with the Divine commandment, we can by doing so, benefit from her assistance to us in ever continuing to avail ourselves of the grace of God in His Holy Sacraments, being in this way spiritually born anew, benefiting from her intercessory power with God and motherly solicitude for us and guided by her to be the person God desires us to be.

May you intercede for us O Mother of God.
