Odd. Is there a maker's mark on the bottom? You might be able to send a pic to them for some background.

I served Mass for a number of years and never saw a chalice quite like that. What materials are in the base of the Chalice?

Most chalice are silver, or plated silver if they are of a better quality.

There might be a maker's hallmark under the base in addition to engraving perhaps noting a prior priest/owners benefactors or relatives.

I was sure the cup portion as a later addition. BUT, a google image search reveals several in that style in their original form...

2-tone chalice, not as prevalent now, we're more common in prior centuries.
