YES, VIRGINIA, THIS IS THE 2002 ROMAN MISSAL IN LATIN IN THE ORDINARY FORM CELEBRATED WITH EXTRAORDINARY FORM SENSIBILIITIES FOR REVERENCE, AWE AND WONDER!

I just celebrated the Votive Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary in our Martha and Mary Chapel. I used the 2002 Latin Edition of the Roman Missal. I also incorporated the choreography of the EF Mass into this OF Mass.

If only! If only! If only!!!! If only this manner of celebrating the Ordinary Form Mass had been followed after Vatican II would there have been the Liturgy wars??????

And I gave a great homily on the Mass!!!!

MASS PROPER: MASS OF THE BVM In Ordinary Time
MASS Salve, sancta Parens (white)

Introit:

Hail, holy Mother, who gave birth to the King who rules heaven and earth for ever and ever. (Ps. 44: 2) My heart has spoken a good word: I speak my works to the King. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Hail, holy Mother, thou who gave birth to the King who rules heaven and earth for ever and ever.

Collect:

Grant, Lord God, that we, your servants, may rejoice in unfailing health of mind and body, and, through the glorious intercession of Blessed Mary Ever-Virgin, may we be set free from present sorrow and come to enjoy eternal happiness. Through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy spirit, God, forever and ever.

Alleluia Gospel Verse:

After childbirth you did remain a perpetual virgin: Mother of God, intercede for us.

OffertoryAntiphon:
Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women. Blessed is the Fruit of your womb.

Prayer over the Offerings:

Receive, O Lord, we ask, the prayers of your people with the sacrificial offerings, that, through the intercession of Blessed Mary, the Mother of your Son, no petition may go unanswered, no request be make in vain. Through Christ our Lord.

Preface:

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, and to praise, bless, and glorify your name in veneration of he Blessed ever-Virgin Mary.

For by the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit, she conceived your Only Begotten Son, and without losing the glory of virginity, brought forth into the world the eternal light, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Through Him the Angels praise your majesty, Dominions adore and Powers tremble before you. Heaven and the Virtues of heaven and the blessed Seraphim worship together with exultation. May our voices, we pray, join with theirs in humble prayer as we acclaim…

Communion Antiphon:

Blessed is the womb of the Virgin Mary, which bore the Son of the eternal Father.

Prayer after Communion:

As we receive this heavenly Sacrament, we beseech, O Lord, your mercy, that we, who rejoice in commemorating the Blessed Virgin Mary, may by imitating her serve worthily the mystery of our redemption. Through Christ our Lord.

Father, this was the effect of the TLM on the Novus Ordo....the Reform of the Reform. However; his Holiness has gone on thr record decrying this notion. He ,and now several Bishops, have since the recent decree, clearly stated none of the rubrics of the TLM are to be allowed to migrate to the Novus Ordo. The gutted Protestant Communion meal is their preferred style; I.e. in local language (no Latin- the Latin Novus Ordo Missal is no longer available from Vatican publishing and will not be allowed to be printed by third parties), no chant, etc.The hermeneutics of rupture has triumphed.

The pope himself said the quiet part out loud: There is no hermeneutic of continuity.

You can post these well-meaning "continuity" proposals for the rest of your life. In the end, it's irrelevant. The Church is either going to be all of one thing or all of another. We've been living in de facto schism for ages and this is about as effective in healing that schism as Lincoln's idea to buy back the slaves from all the slave owners.

We need to either FIX Vatican II or define it for how it has fallen short. Anything else is just a dance.

Have you demonstrated this for youe Bishop and have you shown him your recommendations that are already allowed?

Those who reject this form of the new Mass reject the Missal of 1970/2002 just as much as those who say that only the TLM is valid. If, as Pope Francis wants, all are to to accept the Missal of 1970 then let ALL accept it and do so in all its parts. Establish at least one celebration of the new Mass in this traditional manner in all parishes, not being subject to the veto of any pastor. If this had been done in the beginning there would have been no liturgy wars and there would not be today the call for a return to the TLM.

This reminds me of something I noodled over the other day while sitting, otherwise unoccupied at the moment, in the confessional. What if the 1970 Mass were offered as follows:

Before actually beginning Mass, the priest and server pause at the foot of the altar for quiet prayer (and quietly pray the old prayers at the foot of the altar)?

The priest approaches the altar and venerates it...and reads the opening antiphon from the missal on the "epistle" side...

He leads the Kyrie, and Gloria from the center of the altar...and the collect from the epistle side...

The Missal is moved and situated to the celebrant's left after the Gospel...

The Eucharistic Prayer is prayed in an audible, yet low voice...

The priest turns and faces the people exactly where indicated, but otherwise, faces the same way as the people?

The 1970 Missal is used entirely, no prayers other than those are on the altar; but the priest might have some memorized that he offers silently at various points?

After Mass is concluded, but before departing, the priest and server pray the old post-Mass prayers?

Amont,

Why so pessimistic? This is a temporary setback in some places. The British bishops have blown it off and many American bishops have too. Archbishop Cordileone actually has instituted an EF at his cathedral, post motu propria. You think young priests who say the EF won’t revert to it once PF is a bad memory?

Father McDonald,

I think you and Father Fox would enjoy reading what Bishop Paprocki of Springfield had to say and do about the MT. He is both a civil and canon lawyer and a wonderful man, whom I have had the privilege of meeting. He confirmed my youngest daughter:

Although a bit harsh, here is what the late William F. Buckley and papal knight had to say about the typical OF:

“As a Catholic, I have abandoned hope for the liturgy, which, in the typical American church, is as ugly and as maladroit as if it had been composed by Robert Ingersoll and H.L. Mencken for the purpose of driving people away."

Fr Fox

The Tridentine prayers at the foot of the altar, with Ps 42 and the double Confiteor are too lengthy to be quietly prayed by priest and server before beginning Mass, which would then presumably have to include the Penitential Act of the Novus Ordo.

If, following the NO rubrics, you say or sing the blessing before the Ite Missa Est, the only thing left is the last Gospel which I suppose you could recite (to sing it would violate the rubrics of BOTH rites).
