I just finished watching. Powerful. These Catholics have opened the treasure chest and they are keenly and consistently aware of it. They all glow the same way while lovingly describing the experience. A renewal was likely needed regarding how the traditional mass was being celebrated prior to the Council (20 minute masses etc.), but the wholesale rejection of that which so many held dear....
I watched this last night. I agree, it is a very powerful witness. We have an FSSP parish in our diocese in Providence, RI. I've attended Mass there and my wife actually attended an FSSP Ordination there 2 years ago presided over by Archbishop Athanasius Schneider. "Who is attending mass there regularly?" YOUNG FAMILIES. This is not an exaggeration. I will say this again. HFPF's Moto Proprio, which whacked the TLM, was/is a "solution looking for a problem" and the desperate attempt to validate what is demonstrably false. The implementation of VCII was an epic fail. That's the problem which cries for a solution. Why can't this message get out? Why is our Holy Father so tone deaf? Why Pachymama?
Of course, Pope Francis is correct in calling out people who reject Vatican II. That is not possible to do and remain a faithful Catholic. Neither can one reject any of the documents of the Council.
As Pope Benedict brilliantly tried to do was to interpret the Council in the correct way and in continuity with what preceded. While we can certainly have the older Mass and the newer Mass together, the goal of Pope Benedict would have been a new Roman Missal that embodied Vatican II and the sentiment of reverence, transcendence of the older missal.
It is the implementation of the Council that is the dismal failure, but not in all areas.
I was impressed by it. The fellows have been working on it for a long time. This left me with two impressions; first, the simple emotional theme of the young family in need of solace and the second was the unexpected reactions of the priests to the Old Mass. That was especially striking.
