WE KNOW THAT HIS HOLINESS, POPE FRANCIS EITHER WON'T SING OR CAN'T SING AT MASS; DOES THIS EXPLAIN HIS TONE DEAFNESS IN OTHER AREAS OR IS IT SIMPLY ARROGANCE?

Given the way Danneels is now seen as a symbol of the abuse crisis, Francis and his team had to be aware of the risk of blowback for praising him - and, clearly, the pope did it anyway. --John Allen of Crux

Cardinal Godfried Danneels, 85, retired archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels, Belgium, died March 14, 2019, in Mechelen. He is pictured leaving a session of the extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the family at the Vatican in this Oct. 9, 2014, file photo. (Credit: CNS photo/Paul Haring.)

Pope Francis supported Bishop Juan Barros of Chile until he simply couldn't support him any longer after one gaff after another brought about the intervention of Cardinal O'Malley.

Pope Francis promoted a protege and good friend of his in South America to bishop in Argentina as his first papal appointment of a bishop. He was corrupt, removed from his post and given a created cushy job by Pope Francis in the Vatican. He has serious allegation of sexual and financial misconduct lodged against him. He was removed from his Vatican position but found himself on retreat with the pope this week, a retreat for the curia by the way.

And then there is Cardinal Godfried Danneels of Blegium who was extoled by Pope Francis after his death yesterday and helped to get Pope Francis elected. Pope Francis also invited him to participate in the Synod on the Family.

There are exaggerated reports of his malfeasance as a cardinal but evidently progressives give him a pass because he's a nice guy and well, a progressive.

What isn't disputed are these facts as reported by the great Vaticanist, Edward Pentin:

Leaked audio recordings revealed the Belgian cardinal urging the victim in that case not to make public that his abuser was the victim’s own uncle, Bishop Roger Vangheluwe of Bruges, and pressuring the young man not to force Bishop Vangheluwe to resign, which he did in 2010.

The cardinal’s spokesman said at the time that “there was no intention of any cover-up” and the recording had been taken out of context. But even if there was never a policy of cover-up, commentators criticized Cardinal Danneels for keeping Bishop Vangheluwe’s admission of guilt to himself, failing to convince his brother bishop to resign immediately, and for never involving a commission for protection of minors or his successor.

Although regarded by his supporters as a “man of consensus,” Cardinal Danneels’ critics accused him of being a plotter who surprised many by openly admitting in 2015 to being part of what he called a “mafia” group, organized in the Swiss city of Sankt Gallen, to thwart Pope Benedict XVI’s election 10 years earlier.

The “Sankt Gallen group” wanted a drastic reform of the Church, to make it “much more modern,” and for Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio to head it, Cardinal Danneels said in 2015.

The group, which also comprised German Cardinal Walter Kasper, the late Jesuit Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, and the late English Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor, was fundamentally opposed to Paul VI’s encyclical Humanae Vitae, among other teachings, and “did everything it could, legally and illegally,” to prevent Cardinal Ratzinger’s election in 2005, according to German author Paul Badde.

Although the group had formally disbanded by 2013, its members, including Cardinal Danneels, are believed to have exerted influence to ensure Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio was elected during that year’s conclave. He is one of a select group of cardinals pictured standing next to Francis on the loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica on the night of the election.

Cardinal Danneels is credited for the idea of having a select group of cardinals advise the Pope on Church reform, something which later became the Council of Cardinals, originally made up of nine members but now six.

The cardinal was also well known for holding a number of positions that placed him at odds with definitive Church teaching. He refused to forbid pornographic “educational” materials being used in Belgian Catholic schools, and he once said same-sex “marriage” was a “positive development,” although he sought to distinguish such a union from the Church’s understanding of marriage. He also advocated for condom use to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. (as did Pope Benedict, btw)

Another corrupt liberal to meet his "reward!"

This is very interesting based on how Pope Francis sees the world. On one hand it may be that he is ignorant of how this appears to the world. On the other hand he may not care and is modeling mercy for the rest of us. He also may be so beholden to the mafia that he is simply being honest in how he sees the man.

This fits in nicely with the progressive "catholics" worldview.

evil, pure evil.

Why does TJM keep on posting this nonsense? Is it a personal crusade? Or is it intended to sow dissension?

The article TJM linked makes the following claim: “In one of the sickest ironies no one is talking about, Senate liberals picked this moment — 17 days after they voted to kill America's perfectly healthy infants — to fight for the humane treatment of kittens.”

Maybe no-one is talking about it because it probably isn’t true. I would like TJM or someone to please tell us when Senate liberals voted to kill “perfectly healthy infants” 17 days ago. If they did, then I am as appalled as anyone on this Blog.

I would also like to get real here instead of talking abstractions all the time. Will TJM or someone please tell me what I should say to the people who tell their stories in the following links because, quite frankly, I don’t know? Feeling inadequate to offer counsel to those facing such awful situations, the best I could do would be to advise them to seek the counsel of their priest (if Catholic) or other clergy (if non-Catholic). Perhaps our priests who actually have to deal with these sorts of situations can give us some guidance regarding how else we can be helpful.

A2, what isn't true? A search reveals that Senator Jeff Merkley IS speaking out and trying to put together a bill to "save the kittens."

Why are you trying to show dissention?

My guess is that Cardinal Daneels is singing the song “It’s getting Hot in Here”

"POPE FRANCIS EITHER WON'T SING OR CAN'T SING AT MASS"

But Father, but Father, was not the liturgical reform all about active participation, so that the faithful are no longer silent spectators but sing in the Mass? Did not Bugnini point out that the greatest conflict in the Consilium was about the people vs choir singing at Mass, where the former finally won out? Is not everyone meant to sing at Mass even those who can't?

So this is the Latin Rite Catholic Church of the 21st century: the pride of clericalism, where everyone sings at Mass except for the celebrant who is above all that pedestrian stuff, who faces the people as their supreme leader with a great throne chair for him to rest in behind portable altars in front of old empty tabernacles.

But can you even become a priest in the Byzantine Rites if you cannot sing?

Dan,

I hope I am wrong but your non-responsive and catty comment suggests that you are not interested in having a serious conversation and perhaps even, as one suspects is the case for President Trump and many Republicans, that you don’t really care about abortion at all but opportunistically and cynically want to use the issue to gain political advantage for the Party of Trump. Some of us, however, do take the issue seriously and are really trying to grapple with the hard questions.

Anonymous 2,

If you think the Party of Cow Farts is serious, you are even more delusional than I had thought. You must be having fits that the mask of your evil Party has fallen and it makes YOU look bad.

Another non-responsive comment, from TJM. But that is not at all surprising.

When are you going to answer my question about voting and the abortion issue, TJM?

Dan said...

A2, YOU are the one that said it wasn't true. I was asking what because I found that the comment about kittens WAS true.

Your not answering a simple question shows that we aren't having the discussion you are always claiming to want.

Was my question "What isn't true?" too difficult? (That's a question you don't need to answer btw.)

TJM said...

Anonymous 2,

You are a sell out. No Catholic can vote for the abortion party, period. End of discussion. You are engaged in splitting.

Dan,

Anonymous 2 attempts displays a faux veneer of sophistication. There were a lot of Nazis who could charm you too while peddling evil.

VIctor, the saying in the East, is if he can sing, ordain him a deacon, when he loses his voice, ordain him a priest, when he loses his mind, ordain him a bishop.

Oh for goodness sake, Dan. It is perfectly clear from what I wrote that I wasn’t questioning that Senate liberals talked about kittens. I was questioning whether they really voted to kill “perfectly healthy infants” as the Life Site News article linked by TJM alleged.

You still seem more interested in picking arguments about non-issues (or just for the sake of it) than in responding to the stories of real-life tragic situations faced by the people in the three links I posted.

Anonymous 2,

Satan thanks you for your support on behalf of the Democratic Party.

TJM:

Your comments are despicable. I do not believe you are sincere in your espoused views on abortion. Indeed, I strongly suspect you are an agent provocateur working on behalf of Trump or his paymasters. Prove me wrong by answering the question about abortion and voting I asked you over a year ago on this Blog instead of deflecting by refusing to answer “hypothetical questions.”

Anonymous 2,

Your support of the Democratic Party is despicable if you truly are a Catholic. I guess you view it as the ticket you need to remain popular in the faculty lounge where there is not a scintilla of diversity of thought. I suspect you must be in the pay of George Soros who LOVES abortion and is determined to destroy the US Republic. Hey, if Trump were really Putin's puppet why hasn't Trump forked over Soros to Russia so he can face justice there?

There is no justification for a practicing Catholic to vote for the Abortion Party, any priest or bishop who states otherwise, is an apostate.
