Why we are unable to report on a case that has generated huge interest online
A very high-profile figure was convicted on Tuesday of a serious crime, but we are unable to report their identity due to a suppression order.
The person, whose case has attracted significant media attention, was convicted on the second attempt, after the jury in an earlier trial was unable to reach a verdict. They will be remanded when they return to court in February for sentencing.
A suppression order issued by the Victorian County Court, which applies in all Australian states and territories, has prevented any publication of the details of the case including the person's name or the charges. It was imposed after the court accepted that knowledge of the person's identity in the first trial might prejudice a further trial being held in March.

Father, you have told us here, more than once, that you don't approve of Church Militant (your words were stronger as I recall)...
or did I get that wrong?
Church Militant has spread fakenews and can be very uncharitable in some of its reporting. I think of how it reported on Cardinal Wuerl and that the Vatican was harboring him from arrest in Washington, all fake news and no repentance on that.
On Church Militant one has to learn to separate the editorializing and speculation from the hard news. Michael Voris' Vortex segments are a combination of both. The weekday Headlines with Christine Niles, which usually show up about 3 p.m., are strictly news.
National Review has reported the Cardinal’s conviction as well.
Speaking of disgraced Cardinals, I believe I saw Wuerl walking down the aisle at the National Cathedral for President George H.W. Bush's funeral service. Am I wrong? Is this guy still around?
