VATICAN CITY (AP) — Germany’s Catholic bishops insisted Saturday that their reform process won’t lead to a schism and vowed to continue it after tense meetings with Vatican officials who want a moratorium on proposals to ordain women, bless same-sex unions and rethink church teaching on sexuality.
The head of the German bishops’ conference, Bishop Georg Baetzing, said the German church would not make decisions that were the Vatican’s to make. He said outsiders who fuel fears of the reform process leading to a separation from Rome were ignorant of what actually was getting debated.
“We are Catholic,” Baetzing said at a news conference after a week of meetings with Vatican officials. “But we want to be Catholic in a different way.”
…Francis met individually with the 62 German bishops on Thursday and was expected to join a summit meeting Friday between the bishops and heads of top Vatican offices, including the secretary of state and the prefects of the Vatican’s bishops and doctrine office. Francis failed to show up at the Friday meeting, leaving it to the Vatican hierarchs to speak.
Baetzing suggested the pope’s absence might have been the work of a “clever Jesuit.” Francis had made clear a day earlier that he was comfortable living with a certain “tension” as the German reform process plays out, even if members of the Vatican bureaucracy were not.
Francis has initiated a global reform discussion that is taking place out alongside the German one but is a few steps behind.
MY COMMENT: YES, HE WANTS TO BE CATHOLIC IN A SCHISMATIC WAY, A HERETICAL WAY, A HETERODOX WAY AND DON’T MESS WITH HIM, HE’S A GERMAN AND GERMANS KNOW THE WAY THE BEST! JUST ASK MARTIN LUTHER AND GERMANS IN THE 1930’S! AND YES, THEY ARE VERY CLEVER AND PLAYING US AS FOOLS….

He’s giving PF too much credit. He’s not clever but a ham-handed, blustering bully
We shall see.
Slightly off topic but the Evil Nancy Pelosi in her speech announcing her stepping down from “leadership” in the House said she stands before you “a devout Catholic.” What hubris, is she baiting Archbishop Cordileone to excommunicate her? George Orwell, call your office please!
TJM,
For all of my denunciations of Pope Bergoglio, they all ultimately derive from my disagreement with where he is attempting to take the Church. I am as guilty as anyone here of making some rather sarcastic and mocking statements regarding Bergoglio. But ultimately, I think we are better off praying for him and doing some form of penance. The particular judgment that ANY pope faces would have to be logarithmically more severe than any other person's and he, like all higher authorities will have much to answer for. I am going to try to stop calling him names and stick to disagreeing with his ideas and policies. I challenge you and the others here to do the same. I say this not as your judge or condemner, but as a man who has failed in his own way.
Jerome Merwick,
I understand your point of view. I do pray for him, that he become an orthodox Catholic. I recall when all the lefties swooned when he was elected about the "Francis Effect" and we would see a rebirth! Well, that effect has been deleterious to the life of the Church.
As for the Pope, I pray he dies a Catholic. As for the German bishop, you know it's trouble when he says words to the effect of, "We're the same, but different," indicating a profound envy of Jesuits who could say the same but with much better wording.
