Cardinal Hollerich noted that a synodality that “wants to be Catholic” needs the care and advice of St. Peter: “We need” the Lord, “because we need a healthy indifference that bears witness to freedom in the Spirit, but then because we also notice some temptations on this road.”
The General Rapporteur of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops then spoke about a “temptation” that we sometimes see in the media: the temptation of “politicisation” in and of the Church.
Continuing in his address, the Cardinal said “some have an agenda for the reform of the Church; they know very well what needs to be done and want to use the Synod for that purpose: this is instrumentalizing the Synod. This is politicising.”
Conversely, those who are on the “opposite side, or the "indietristi” (only looking to the past) do not understand that a “true Catholic tradition evolves even though it remains a tradition in its time. They too would like to put the brakes on the Synod process.”
Those participating in the meeting of the Presidents and Coordinators of the Continental Assemblies, rather desire to “be able to enter into a true discernment, an apostolic discernment, so that the synodal Church can carry out its mission in the world,” the Cardinal said.
Walking together, with the Pope, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus, is thus necessary “in order to mend our Church,” Cardinal Hollerich stated at the end of his address.

The purpose of the Church is to bring people into union with God. Such a thing does not evolve, but only devolves into not bringing people into union with God.
Today, there are VERY few priests, bishops or cardinals who could even begin to point the way to God, them ignorant of the way themselves, and the vast majority of them could not even point to resources for their lost flocks to use on their own, despite there being numerous orthodox works on that very subject.
They have dispensed themselves from being holy and teaching others to be holy. And then they wonder why flocks dwindle when the flocks get no solid answers, and why people tire of supporting an institution which offers nothing but a sacrament-dispensing-station. They are too self-referential where all which matters is the institution which supports them. True holiness is always somebody else's job, and not theirs. Their job is to manage and guide an institution and dispense sacraments, and nothing else. "So sorry you are dying alone and frightened, but we have important things to do such as organize and manage and pick corporate goals and evolve the Church."
Bob,
Like you, I think the synods are a crock! A pastor should know his people and their spiritual needs
Father McDonald said..."BOMBSHELL! VATICAN NEWS ACTUALLY PRINTS A STORY ABOUT THE SYNOD ASKING GOD TO BE IN THE PICTURE—FABULOUS!"
That has been the case from the dawn of the Synod/Synodal Process.
As Pope Francis had declared last year:
"I want to say again that the Synod is not a parliament or an opinion poll; the Synod is an ecclesial event and its protagonist is the Holy Spirit."
Unfortunately, as Cardinal Hollerich noted, the Church's two extreme wings, to advance their respective agendas, have, as usual, mispresented a Church document/event.
It is the result of the usual suspects, and their shenanigans, from which "controversy" in regard to the Synod/Synodal Process has flowed.
But as the True Church has assured us, the Holy Ghost is the driving force in regard to the Synod/Synodal Process.
In turn, via the Holy Ghost's inspiration, Pope Francis, as well as the bishops in communion with him, will guide the Synod/Synodal Process in orthodox fashion.
That does not mean, unfortunately, that the two extreme wings in question will end their anti-Catholic attacks against the Synod/Synodal Process.
But we will be fine, and know the Truth, as long as we adhere to Pope Francis' Synod/Synodal Process-related teachings.

Mark, Pope Francis, His Holiness himself, has exacerbated the polarization in the Church which Vatican II initiated by the mid 1960’s. He has done so, not so much from an academic or intellectual approach to theology and Vatican II, but by shaming, name calling and diminishing one aspect of this polarization, those who wish for the Church to be going in the direction Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI were leading it, which was healing this chasm of polarization.
Pope Francis has named a new political lobby in the Church, “backwardists”. But he does not set limits on what this name means for him. I suspect it is those mentally ill rigid people who prefer what Pope Benedict allowed and offered them, the liturgies of the Church as they were at Vatican II, not afterward. But does it also mean those who prefer marriage to be between one biological man and one biological women too? Is that backward thinking in today’s world. Or those who believe that Holy orders is just for men, not women? Is that backwardism.
Pope Francis should know my now, given all the synods he has had and now with this synod on synods, that he can tell participants until he is blue in the face that this is not a parliamentary procedure, when in fact it is and there are political lobbies lobbying for their perspective, be it liberal, conservative, orthodox or heterodox. That has happened throughout his papacy and he calls it out but does nothing to stop it but allows it to go forward.
He knows what he is doing and he does it by stealth.

At the conclusions to the Synods that he had guided, Pope Francis delivered beautiful, orthodox, teaching documents. He, or another Pope, will do so in regard to the current Synod.
In the meantime, as has been the case throughout Church history, Pope Francis, or any Pope, will not prevent lobbies within the Church from pushing their agendas...arguing vehemently with each other...creating trouble...attempting to hijack Church-related documents/events.
But despite the troublemakers within the Church, the Pope will teach the True Faith. The Pope's Magisterium will not fail.
We need not permit the troublemakers to upset us...to destroy our peace with Jesus Christ.
To accomplish the above, remain simply in communion with Pope Francis. Submit to his God-given authority to teach, govern, and sanctify us. Then we will be at peace.

Father McDonald said..."those who wish for the Church to be going in the direction Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI were leading it, which was healing this chasm of polarization."
Father McDonald, as I recall, during the reigns of Popes Saint John Paul II, and Benedict XVI, the "polarization" within the Church was just as fierce as today.
Archbishop Lefebvre, for example, led the right-wing charge against Pope Saint John Paul II, as well as such so-called "modernists" as then-Cardinal Ratzinger.
Archbishop Lefebvre claimed that Pope Saint John Paul II was an apostate. Liberals attacked Popes Saint John Paul, and Benedict XVI.
The internet is filled with articles that have denounced Popes Saint John Paul, and Benedict XVI, as rigid, polarizing Popes. Popes Saints John XXIII, and Paul VI, have been denounced repeatedly as awful, polarizing Popes.
Trads have rejected Pope Venerable Pius XII's liturgical reforms as "polarizing."
Liberals have insisted that Pope Venerable Pius XII, as "Hitler's Pope," polarized the Church.
Now, it is Pope Francis' turn to have his critics denounce him as a "polarizing" Pope.
So be it.
