MORE CONTAGION PHOBIA, THIS TIME IN PROGRESSIVE CHICAGO

It seems that the Chicago Archdiocese must have read my post yesterday on how contaminated the common chalice already is before it is used for Mass, meaning that it isn’t properly sanitized after 30 or more people have drunk from on chalice! There is no way to ascertain how well common chalices are cleansed after Sunday and daily use. This is of more concern than drinking from a sanitized chalice after multiple people with pathogens have already drunk from it as disgusting as that is.

Chicago’s liturgical hysteria:

I am tempted to quibble with the statement assuming frequent contact with saliva when administering on the tongue. However, the vast majority of times that has happened has been in a NO Mass when the person complied with my posture. Even that was rare. I would chalk that up to lack of training, experience, and focus. I bet that if the person was more accustomed to it that they would have a perfect score.

Dear Father:

You may be interested to know that I've decided to make a few changes at my parish. The impetus was not you -- sorry! -- but the Archbishop, as well as a neighboring pastor's actions.

I'm encouraging folks to avoid touching each other during the sign of peace, and I'm suspending distribution of the Precious Blood. Along the way, I address the in the hand/on the tongue misconceptions.

My post is here: http://frmartinfox.blogspot.com/2020/03/what-were-doing-about-germs-at-st-remy.html

Fr Fox, how has the response been to suspension of distribution of the Precious Blood? Have you explained the efficacy of the single Species of the Precious Body? I have experienced some argument that the Precious Blood is more ‘fulfilling’ or something like that. Some link that to Vatican II and feel angry if ‘denied’. We should not waste this crisis as an opportunity to educate.

With all due respect, Fr. McD, I doubt the Archdiocese of Chicago took the action it did because of your post, although it's fun to think they might have! :-) Instead, I am certain that just like the Democrats are using the spread of the COVID-19 virus to shell Trump for a weak or faulty response, the progressives in the Church sure don't want the same hammer to fall on them, especially should some poor old lady end up in ICU with her frail husband, and it turns out she caught it at Mass.

Every single news station here had a story yesterday about the new guidelines at Mass. Funny, but I didn't hear any such "news" for Protestant churches or for synagogues.

P.R. is always top priority here. Have to stay out in front of bad press, and in fact, get good press when you can.

God bless.

As I mentioned in another comment, they also have required removal of Holy Water. At the chapel in the nursing home I volunteer at, they removed even the empty cups, I assume to prevent people from touching even that.

I expect these measures aren't really going to do much to help considering how contagious the illness seems to be. But I suppose it makes people feel better, as if the Church is doing something.

God bless.

I just made the decision yesterday and posted a notice about it on Facebook. It will be in the bulletin this coming weekend, and I'll say something about it then. So no reactions to speak of. There is bound to be someone who objects, but I think it will be well understood.

Martin, I've not had a single complaint here since suspending the common cup and exchange of peace. Hope it goes as easily for you.
