I’ve asked our parishioners to see their homes/families as the Church in miniature. We are encouraging home altars. Here are some wonderful examples:

all good, but what makes me nuts is the turning of the blessed mother. I see these (like in your 1st pic) all over facing the road or driveway, however the original set up, at least around here, was that the blessed mother faced the kitchen window, usually in front of the sink, so that mom could reflect on it as she worked, (washing dishes)her own personal shrine for the home. My paternal grandpa built a shrine to the blessed virgin in their back yard facing their bedroom window, my grandmother had a kneeler there, later a rocking chair also, she said the rosary everyday and sometimes grandpa joined her, Those two had a very contentious marriage but they made it work, both bullheaded and stubborn to a fault, sometimes they didn't talk for days but prayer made it work and in later years they actually loved each other. Grandpa died at 65 and she lived on that farm for another 25+ years
Here’s a link to our mantle (we have the flowers around Mary for the Annunciation). The pictures are all the saints that our kids are named after (Sts. Madeleine Sophie Barat, Therese, Ambrose, Augustine, Sebastian, Clement of Rome, Boniface, and Alexander of Constantinople), St. Plus X, and our deceased son:

Tonight we will take all of these pictures away and cover all our images with purple for Passiontide.
Very nice, people's private devotional areas. I have an icon corner/shelf myself.
