ALL PUBLIC MASSES CANCELED IN THE DIOCESE OF SAVANNAH

It breaks my heart, but it is so! I keep hoping I am in a dream and will soon wake up!

We plan to live stream on our Facebook page our daily and Sunday Masses celebrated in private.

Bee here:

Father McD, I watched the livestream at St. John Cantius this past Sunday and at least it allowed me to pray with the priest and to make a Spiritual Communion. You might want to post directions for Perfect Act of Contrition and Spiritual Communion on your parish Facebook page and if you have one, website. That way people know what to do at communion time.

It's not a the greatest, but it's better than not seeing Mass at all. I just hope it won't be too long a period. It's really hard. But what a huge sacrifice we have to offer to Our Lord for Lent!

God bless.

Self-Interdiction?

I wonder what St. Charles Borromeo, St. Gregory the Great and St. Robert Bellarmine might have to say about this?

Then again, we all know most modernists have no use for saints.

From the CDC: CDC estimates that, from October 1, 2019, through March 7, 2020, there have been:

-- 36,000,000 – 51,000,000 flu illnesses.

-- 17,000,000 – 24,000,000 flu medical visits.

-- 370,000 – 670,000 flu hospitalizations.

-- 22,000 – 55,000 flu deaths.

=====================================================================================

In light of the above, why don't the Church and world shut down during deadly flu seasons?

As regards the OF Mass, during flu season, hand-shaking at Mass continues...the distribution of the Chalice continues.

But in regard to the Coronavirus, public Mass is suspended.

It is always business-as-usual within and without the Church during each deadly flu season.

But in regard to the Coronavirus, panic has abounded within and without the Church.

Pax.

I find it cowardly. The Church is needed most in these times not to run and hide from everyone. "He who loves his life will lose it." The Church needs to find ways to minister to the suffering people not abandon them. Not to mention, the world needs MORE masses not less. I would do as the SSPX has long done, offer private masses at scheduled times with the doors open. These are interesting times, we have been truly abandoned in the desert.

We need the sacraments now more than ever. How many people, fearing that death is approaching, are now motivated to make that long neglected Confession--only to find that no priest will hear them? How many people want to make things right with God by attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion only to find that the shepherds have locked the gates.

Our shepherds have abandoned us. Bishops wear red as a sign of their willingness to shed blood for the faith. Perhaps we should change that color to yellow.

No one is acting cowardly. No one is hiding. No one is abandoning anyone.

Restricting close contact between people, including doing so by cancelling Masses and other Church functions, is a prudent course of action.

Bishops wear purple, not red. Cardinals wear red.

The Coronavirus has a much higher mortality rate as compared to the flu-anywhere from 10 to 14 times as high. There are also those who have succumbed to the coronavirus who recover but now have scarring on the lungs, which may be permanent. It affects those over age 50 more than those below that age and very few of those below age 18. Teenagers and below,if they do get infected, tend to be asymptomatic. Infants, especially newborns are the exception since they have little or no immunity. An age breakdown of those infected in a report I saw a few days ago from the State of Georgia Department of Public Health was that 92% of the infected were age 18 and above. The flu, on the other hand, affects those below age 50 to a much greater extent than those above that age. This is an important factor in deciding on precautionary measures, since many, perhaps most who regularly attend church, tend to be in a higher age bracket or cohort.

A new flu season will begin later this year. The flu will kill hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

Will our bishops suspend Mass during flu season?

At the very least, will our bishops halt such practices as shaking and hold hands during Mass? Will they prohibit the administration of the common Chalice?

Mark:
Although it is not universal, in some places(dioceses and individual Churches) what you suggest has been done.
