I wonder if there is a back story to this given how controversial he is and a close buddy of Pope Francis. And on the eve of Pope Francis' releasing his document on the Amazon Synod organized by the Germans who want married priests and women deacons and the pope said, those who want these will be disappointed, like Cardinal Marx? Do you think his resignation is a protest? Inquiring minds want to know!
But even more fascinating are the six candles of unbleached wax, a pre-Vatican II thingy to be avoided at all costs today, being used at a funeral celebrated by Cardinal Marx. What are we to make of it????? Inquiring minds ask and wonder!

Of course, the Cardinal's hand gestures in the photo could indicate that His Eminence is saying "What the hell is this????"
Indeed, the traditional 6 beeswax candles from the EF Requiem detract from the single Bugnini candle called for in the OF.

I must say, I love unbleached blessed wax candles for use in my home. They are so beautiful, and have a lovely natural aroma of the beeswax. White beeswax candles resemble paraffin to me. But I do think they look beautiful on the altar.
God bless.
