PRIEST OFFERING THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK TO CORONAVIRUS VICTIMS AND WITH ABUNDANT CAUTION; ORWELLIAN? YESSSSSSSS!

Orwellian?

Nah. There's nothing dystopian about a medical professional (he's not a priest) taking reasonable precautions when treating folks.

Ah yes 'reasonable precautions....'

Doesn't the full suited fully equipped health care professional bother you in the least BECAUSE it might be 'reasonable?'

Or perhaps you have a personal problem with the blogger, and so, must always find something to fuss about... hmmmmmm...

Does it bother me?

No. When health care professionals go into places where they know a contagious disease is present, they "suit up." In those circumstances, the kind of gear in the picture seems to me to be entirely reasonable. No "bother" at all.

When, however, an individual with a significant irrational fear of germs starts going all "The Sky Is Falling! The Sky Is Falling!" and ranting about how we are all going to die because someone in the congregation sneezed, then, it seems to me, prudent to act as a voice of reason.

Cheers!

No dear, health care professionals DON'T suit up like this when just any old contagious disease is present.....

IF you were as knowing as you claim, you would know that.

Oh yeah, and it is a (years!) long-standing problem with the blog host. It was already a nuisance thirty years ago to those of us who were aware of it, and now just beggars belief.

Bee here:

Gee, I wonder why he's not offering them the common cup... :-) Because according to Fr. Kavanaugh, if it were easy to catch contagious diseases, we'd all be dead by now.

"On January 21 2020 (at 3:42pm) Fr. Kavanaugh said in response to Fr. McD saying, "Contagious diseases is (sic) easily caught."

"Wrong. That is your germ phobia talking nonsense to your head. If it were easy to catch contagious diseases, you and I and everyone else would be dead by now."

God bless,
Bee

FrAJM, I like your sense of humor and humility poking fun at your not unreasonable concerns about the spread of germs. The issue, as you seem to understand, is that people don’t follow the basic hygiene procedures when in close contact with other folks. Covering your face while sneezing or coughing, not making the Ordinary Sign of Peace with the 30 people in each adjacent pew with that same hand before sanitizing, etc. For what it’s worth, the rebreather is best for Low Mass since it muffles the voice.

The objections to your usually humorous concerns provided by FrAJK are right in theory but assume that everyone is following the correct protocols. If that assumption was correct the the spread of disease would be no threat at all. What happens, of course is that one or two violations of common hygiene can create widespread illness. The only person that is destined to come in contact with everyone in the congregation, sick or not, is the priest. So your concerns are valid although your reaction might be (for entertainment purposes) over the top.

In any case, get the breath pack with the powered fan for the face lens. It prevents fogging.

"No dear, health care professionals DON'T suit up like this when just any old contagious disease is present....."

Dan, Dan, Dan, I would suspect that health care professionals follow the advice of the experts in such situations, don't you?

If the lead doctor or the site director says, "Folks, we're going in to check symptoms. Everyone must wear Level III (or whatever it is called) protection," then I suspect everyone wears the prescribed gear.

rcg - The problem is that the blog owner doesn't follow this course of overreaction for "entertainment purposes." He thinks it's real.

Your last post just proved my point that you SHOULD be bothered if the suits are pulled out and put into use as 'reasonable.'

Also Anonymous, you should quit letting Fr. McDonald's germophobia get to you. After all, germophobia is not homophobia....

Dan - No, I should not be worried. They, however, should be.

As of today there are 15 cases of coronavirus in the United States. 8 in California, 2 in Illinois, and 1 each in WI, AZ, DC, MA, and TX.

I do not live in CA, IL, WI, AZ, DC, MA, or TX, so there is virtually no reason for me to be worried about coronavirus. And I certainly don't have to be taking extraordinary measures to prevent its spread.

The blog owner's germaphobia is not getting to me. I'm hoping that it won't impact how reasonable people respond.

And your growing obsession with homophobia is something you should take up with your therapist and pastor. After all...

Cheers!

Anonymous, you probably realize that your position reminds me of the attitude many take in regards to HIV. That is - "So long as it happens to THEM, over THERE, and I'm not being exposed, it's THEIR problem and doesn't bother me."

Dan, Bless you heart, but do keep trying.

Let me remind you what you said about being "bothered."

You said, "Doesn't the full suited fully equipped health care professional bother you in the least BECAUSE it might be 'reasonable?'"

You see, you asked if I was "bothered" by the "full suited fully equipped health care professional."

I said, "Does it bother me? No." And I am still not bothered by the full suited fully equipped health care professional.

NOW, dear Dan, you want to accuse me of being heartless, of not caring that people are getting sick and dying "over THERE" because "it's THEIR problem."

Let me correct your self-inflicted misapprehension. I have great sympathy for the sick and dying. I pray each day that God will guide the work of the medical responders, the health care officials, and the researchers.

Yes, the suffering brought about by this disease DOES bother me.

But, to be clear once again, I am not bothered when people in places where the disease is widespread - and that's not hereabouts - take reasonable precautions for their particular circumstances.

Cheers!

Thanks for clearing that up A. You must understand that the tremendous contempt for Fr. M. exhibited in your posts sometimes obscures your exact feelings and positions on anything else.

Dan - I have no contempt for the blog owner.

I disagree with him, which you misunderstand as contempt.

I don't share his germophobia, which you misunderstand as contempt.

And I don't share his incapacity for writing a standard American English sentence and find it beyond my control to avoid offering corrections when he and I am unanimous in this violates and sometimes egregiously the standard and mostly universally accepted forms of and style of grammar and syntax.

But, bless your heart anyway...
