POPE FRANCIS, TIME MAGAZINE'S MAN OF THE YEAR!

HOORAY FOR POPE FRANCIS!
Vatican Radio ) Pope Francis has been chosen by Time Magazine as ‘Person of the Year’ for 2013. He is the third Roman Pontiff to receive this honour after John XXIII in 1962 and John Paul II in 1994.The Head of the Holy See’s Press Office, Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi issued the following statement:
“The decision didn’t come as a surprise given the great resonance and attention surrounding the election of Pope Francis right from the start of the new pontificate. The fact that one of the most prestigious awards to be attributed by the international press should go to someone who promotes spiritual, religious and moral values as well as call for peace and greater justice in an incisive manner is a positive sign.
As for the Pope himself, he’s not someone who seeks fame and success, because he has put his life at the service of announcing the Gospel of the love of God for mankind. It is pleasing to the Pope that this service should appeal and give hope to women and men. And if this choice of ‘Person of the Year’ should mean that many people have understood this message – at least implicitly- the Pope is really happy about this."

Well, it is for damn sure they never would have chosen Benedict when he was Pope. He doesn't fit the humanist template. Completely disgusting, sycophantic, hypocritical, manipulative, propagandistic media predictability. Projectile vomit alert...

Let's ALL sing along now! One and two and three and four . . .

Long live the Pope His praises sound again and yet again

His rule is over space and time His throne the hearts of men

All hail the Shepherd King of Rome The theme of loving song

Let all the earth is glory sing And heav'n the strain prolong.

Let all the earth is glory sing And heav'n the strain prolong.

Beleaguered by the foes of earth Beset by hosts of hell.

He guards the loyal flock of Christ A watchful sentinel

And yet amid the din and strife The clash of mace and sword

He bears alone the shepherd staff This champion of the Lord

He bears alone the shepherd staff This champion of the Lord.

I love that papal song! We sang it in our parish as Pope Benedict departed and we sang it again the first Sunday after Pope Francis was elected!

As far as Miley Cyrus as "Man of the Year" I'll have to think about it given the gender confusion that exists in the world. Interesting concept!

You're a bit behind the curve, Padre. It was changed to "Person of the Year" in 1999. The "gender confusion" may exist mostly in your world.

Oh, my, I didn't realize it was politically incorrect to call a man who wins the person of the year (prior to know what gender wins) Man of the Year and the same with a woman who wins, Woman of the year. Yes gender neutral terms suits our unisex intuitions very well.

This is not, and has not been, an hon our for long time. World class criminals have gotten it. It just means he has "made news" often. That seems sort of odd since Pope Benedict set this up with Summorum Pontificum and a once in 600 year retirement. This more like finding your name on the wall of a popular restroom.

What a shock that liberals just love Francis. And why would the liberal media adore this man? If he believes and teaches the same things as all previous popes then why didn't they show such adoration towards Pope Benedict. And as for him rejecting luxury are they referring to the papal apartments. Francis doesn't live in one small room in the Vatican guest house, he took over the entire 2nd floor. Which by the way he had completely redone at a cost of 2 million Euro. And he now lives in more square footage then if he had moved into the papal apartments which were humble enough for St. Pius X.

Hitler was Time's man of the year in 1938.

We really should quit sniping at Pope Francis. I do not think he is being hypocritical in his life, he is trying set a public example of humility. That is a dilemma, not hypocracy. I think he will find a target on his back just like Christ did, soon enough.

I find it sad and disappointing to read here such antipathy towards this choice by Time (and I suspect such continuing antipathy towards Pope Francis himself). Perhaps his antagonists on this Blog would have preferred Miley Cyrus to be chosen after all (thank goodness, I have no idea who this person is but I am given to understand he/she is some kind of popular music entertainer), or perhaps they would have preferred Madonna! Talk about negativity! In case anyone is interested in some actual facts, as opposed to negative vitriol, here is a link to the actual article from Time:

Talking of facts, Anonymous, can you please cite us to a source about the renovation of the Vatican Guesthouse second floor. I have done an internet search and cannot find a story about it (as opposed to renovation of the papal apartments). Perhaps I have just missed it.

You aren't going to find anything in the press about the renovations in the press because it would destroy the image that is being painted. And it is an image. Just like the phony story Francis told about how a Cardinal said to him right after the election "don't forget the poor" and the pope said that's when he knew he should take the name Francis. Not true. A priest friend of mine was studying at the Greg in 2005 right before the conclave that elected Benedict XVI. One morning he is sitting in that cafeteria they have on the first floor on the left in the back. Guess who came and sat next to him....Bergoglio. My friend said he asked, rather imprudently to the cardinal, if he was elected what name would he take and Bergoglio said "Francis". Just ask any priest living in the Domus and they will tell you that Francis is 100 percent different. You are told not to look or speak to the pope. He never smiles and isn't this huggy kissing pope that we see in the square.

Does anyone else see something very wrong with this picture?

Anonymous,

I was not consulting the press; I was searching the internet. It’s not the same thing. If there were any truth to the claim, or even if it were just a vicious rumor, I would have expected to find something about it on the internet. Or am I wrong about that?

So, can anyone at all find anything about this story anywhere? Please let us know.

Since I went past the Vatican Motel 6, the place of residence for His Holiness, Pope Francis, several times while I was in Rome and in front of the Motel Six, I know for sure that the Holy Father has two rooms there on the front of the building facing the back of St. Peter's Basilica. If there had been a major renovation of that second floor, construction would still be in progress and there was no hint, whatsoever, of any construction or renovation of that building.
