BREAKING NEWS! POPE FRANCIS, SO SAYS CBS EVENING NEWS, IS BASICALLY AS CONSERVATIVE AS HIS PREDECESSORS!

But in covering the Holy Father being named Time's Person of the Year, the CBS Evening News gets someone who is interviewed to state that he is a moderate, not pleasing either extremes in the Church, progressive or conservative:

First of all, let me say that I am not writing to disparage Pope Francis--however, my opinion of him is not heigtened because CBS and Time apparently like him better than Benedict XVI.

I grew up seeing the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite in the 60's and 70's. If I recall correctly, Walter (sometimes referred to as "pink Walter" because of his then suspected leftist views) retired about 1980 (shortly after I graduated high school.

I stopped watching CBS (and other "big three" network newcasts) sometime in the latter 80's or early 90's and shifted to CNN. I have continued, at times, to watch the PBS news and listen regularly to NPR (just to see what the left is thinking). I started watching more and more FOX news in the 90's, still occasionally comparing their coverage with CNN.

Maybe its my small-town Southern background, but I have a certain disdain for the CBS/NBC/ABC/CNN/Time/The New York Times Eastern "establishment" New York City-centric view of the world and what they deign as constituting "progress" in this life. It bothers me even more when Catholic clergy and other Church leaders think that the editorial approval of these news sources is desirable. 'Talk about stumbling blocks!

"Pope Francis, so says CBS News, is basically as conservative as his predecessors."

So CBS is wrong about this too. What else is new? When the mainstream media are so insensitive to religious realities that they cannot distinguish between truly conserving (preserving) traditional faith, and lip service to traditional beliefs while sending liberal signals that have greater effect on behavior and belief.
