Sky News Australia has shown clips of Biden's incoherent ramblings and suggested that he should be in a rest home with a bowl of hot soup. Be that as it may, the presenters seem to find the whole thing funny. I don't; if someone has impaired mental faculties he should not be held up to ridicule, and if the leader of the free world is indeed senile it is no laughing matter.
Should Biden have to resign due to ill-health we are faced with the prospect of Kamala Harris in the White House. It has to be said that she has not come across as being particularly competent, but it should be remembered that by June 2020 Biden had committed to choosing a black woman as running mate, and of the four contenders Harris was the only one with significant political experience.
I understand her father was from Jamaica and her mother was Indian so can we hope she was brought up to appreciate cricket? It would be one redeeming feature.
In the USA there is legitimate concern about the cognitive abilities of President Biden. He is definitely not the same person that he was ten years ago in terms of his mental acuity, but who is? Even the famous and almost 50 year old NBC tv show, “Saturday Night Live” did a truly hilarious satire skit last Saturday on the two Joe Biden’s, one when he was Vice President and the other one now. NBC is perceived as being aligned with liberal politics in the USA and the Democrat Party. So this perception they turned into satire was a bit stunning and indicates that even they see how much President Biden has declined. It doesn’t help that the president has had face lifts and uses Botox to keep his face frozen and almost “death mask” like too. While I am not a psychologist, I have ministered to numerous people with Alzheimer’s or creeping dementia. Sometimes they are quite lucid and at other times completely not so and confused in trying to find words to express themselves or completely discombobulated in this regard.
