THE BASILICA SHRINE OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION AND A NEW BRANCH OF THE SISTERS OF MERCY

CNN has produced a very nice piece on the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. You can see it by PRESSING THIS LINK TO THEIR WEBSITE AND TO THE SHRINE.

The Sisters of Mercy have a new branch that is very true to their original charism and is in the midst of a vocation "come back." Communities like these show the Church that vocations to women's religious orders is possible when there is a good reason for joining and a distinctive lifestyle that is different than what one can do outside of the religious order.

PRESS HERE FOR THE RELIGIOUS SISTERS OF MERCY OF ALMA TO SEE THEIR WEBSITE.

One of the first things Bishop Richard Stika did upon his arrival here was to successfully invite the Alma Sisters of Mercy into the Diocese of Knoxville, where the Nashville Dominicans are also well established, so our small diocese is uncommonly blessed with the kind of sisters seen only in traditional habits (and all that implies).

Traditional Female Religious Orders are generating 80% of the new vocations while comprising only 20% of the existing orders.

Similar numbers, albeit not so lopsided, can be found to show the traditional orders are producing much higher percentages of Priestly vocations as well.

Co-incidence? I don't think so.

How refreshing!
The website of the Sisters of Mercy in Alma, Michigan is about the order, it's foundress, and the consecrated life. So UNlike the website of the sisters of Mercy of the Americas website.
The Alma website even shows a slideshow of a final profession!
