I wish that there had been a voice-over translation of the German rather than subtitles. But the subtitles are good just a bit of a pain in the neck.
He also speaks about conscience in obeying the pope or bishops. This is the most adult undersanding of ecclesial obedience I have ever heard a bishop articulate.
This bishop knows what he is talking about. I recall most Catholics in my parish in Augusta assenting to what we were being told Vatican II desired for the Church out of blind obedience. My father, in particular, was of this nature when it came to authority. He, of course, was a career army soldier, enlisted man. Thus authority and respect for authority was always paramount.
What an irony that the German Church which has spiraled into apostacy and schism still has some excellent bishop theologians. Bishop Huonder is one and Joseph Ratzinger the other as well as Cardinal Mueller.
We don’t have to check our brain at the door or violate our conscience when it comes to ecclesial authority. And we can call out manipulating the laity into obedience by the pope or a bishop saying that what they are imposing is from the Holy Spirit as though they have some kind of inside tract to the truth that isn’t perceivable to all. This is particularly true of novelty. If we are told that we have to accept the Holy Spirit in her leading of the Church, then that is a form of sinful manipulation if what is being promoted is heterodox.
The same is true of psychological terrorism. Pope Francis constantly frets about psychological rigidity and diagnosis those who disagree with him as rigid. No pope, other bishop or priest has a right to make psychological diagnosis no matter if their judgement is correct or just down right wrong and mean-spirited.
They must uphold the truth of the Church and ask Catholics to accept the truth which is out in the open.
This video is well-worth the subtitles although a pain in the neck:

Bravo
Bishop Vitus Huonder declared that Holy Mother Church as She exists today has broken "from the transmitted Faith, tradition and practice of the Faith. The departure of the Faith is felt most painfully in the changed rite of the Holy sacrifice of the Mass."
He insisted that the Church has entered into "apostasy."
Bishop Vitus Huonder's above comments are preposterous and destructive beyond comprehension.
It is clear that Archbishop Lefebvre, who espoused the same nonsense as above, has influenced Bishop Vitus Huonder's destructive thinking in question.
Father McDonald, it is interesting that your commentary invoked Joseph Ratzinger.
Father, you said: "What an irony that the German Church which has spiraled into apostacy and schism still has some excellent bishop theologians. Bishop Huonder is one and Joseph Ratzinger the other..."
It is interesting in that Bishop Huonder has rejected the following from Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI):
"There is no contradiction between the two editions of the Roman Missal. In the history of the liturgy there is growth and progress, but no rupture."
Also from Joseph Ratzinger:
"the revised missal is “nothing other than a renewed form of that same missal to which Pius x, Urban viii, Pius v and their predecessors have contributed, right from the church’s earliest history."
Popes Francis, Saint John Paul II, Blessed John Paul I, and Saint Paul VI also teach/taught..."no rupture."
Bishop Huonder has declared in opposition to the Papal Magisterium.
Thank you.

Mark T,
In our culture, going as far back as certain juvenile delinquents at Eton and Harrow etc in past centuries, to English and Irish convicts sent to America or Australia etc in the 18th and 19th centuries, to many of the best pubs from……you get the idea…..no one is fully an accepted member, an insider, until he has a nickname!
Mark “like a dog with a bone” Thomas shortened to something suitable, fitting….is something we are working on….okay?
P.
PS - can you finish the punch line to these recent jokes:
“Why did Pope Francis and Cardinal Roach cross the road?……”
“Knock, knock..”. “Who is there?” “Cardinal Roach!” ………”
Seriously, are there stronger words than “honesty” and “integrity” to use in summing up the character of the above prelate and his words?
Bishop Huonder has insisted upon the impossible:
The Church has broken with Her past. The Church has fallen in apostasy. Or, more precise, "partial apostasy." The Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI has ruptured with the "authentic" Roman Liturgical tradition.
Bishop Huonder's above claims are contrary to Holy Mother Church's teachings.
What is interesting is that he is in communion with Pope Francis. Pope Francis, in turn, teaches contrary to Bishop Huonder.
Therefore, Bishop Huonder is in communion with a Church that has fallen into "partial apostasy" as She has broken supposedly with Her past.
It is clear that Bishop Huonder has preferred to stand with Archbishop Lefebvre's muddled thinking.
As Pope Saint John Paul II declared in regard to Archbishop Lefebvre's nonsense:
"The root of this schismatic act can be discerned in an incomplete and contradictory notion of Tradition.
"Incomplete, because it does not take sufficiently into account the living character of Tradition, which, as the Second Vatican Council clearly taught, "comes from the apostles and progresses in the Church with the help of the Holy Spirit.
"There is a growth in insight into the realities and words that are being passed on.
"This comes about in various ways. It comes through the contemplation and study of believers who ponder these things in their hearts. It comes from the intimate sense of spiritual realities which they experience.
"And it comes from the preaching of those who have received, along with their right of succession in the episcopate, the sure charism of truth".

Bishop Vitus Huonder claimed that the Church has broken with Her past...with Holy Tradition.
He insisted, contrary to the Papal Magisterium, that the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI constitutes a rupture with the Roman Liturgy
Again, Pope Benedict XVI:
"There is no contradiction between the two editions of the Roman Missal. In the history of the liturgy there is growth and progress, but no rupture."

Bishop Vitus Huonder has demonstrated as to why peace/liturgical peace within the TLM realm of the Church has proved difficult to achieve.
I will focus my comments on this thread upon holy Pope Benedict XVI's gallant efforts to lead trads away from the liturgical war that more than a few trads had long-waged within the Church.
Bishop Huonder's has issued destructive, liturgical warmongering comments against the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI.
Bishop Huonder's destructive comments in question stand in opposition to Pope Benedict XVI's holy attempts to promote the peaceful coexistence of the TLM, as well as, Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI.
Bishop Huonder declared in destructive fashion that the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI has broken with the Roman liturgical tradition...has broken with "the transmitted Faith, tradition and practice of the Faith."
Bishop Huonder has insisted that the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI represents a rupture within the Roman Liturgy.
Bishop Huonder has rejected the following teachings of Pope Benedict XVI:
-- "In the history of the liturgy there is growth and progress, but no rupture."
-- "There is no contradiction between the two editions of the Roman Missal."
Pope Benedict XVI confirmed the "value and holiness" of the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI via the following teaching:
"Needless to say, in order to experience full communion, the priests of the communities adhering to the former usage cannot, as a matter of principle, exclude celebrating according to the new books.
"The total exclusion of the new rite would not in fact be consistent with the recognition of its value and holiness."
Pope Benedict XVI had not only confirmed the "value and holiness" of the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI...
Pope Benedict XVI also declared that to remain in full communion with the True Church, TLM communities were forbidden to "exclude celebrating according to the new books."
Unfortunately, Bishop Huonder, as well as more than a few trads, are at war with Pope Benedict XVI's above-mentioned teachings.
More than a few trads played a major role in having sunkmf Pope Benedict's holy efforts to establish the peaceful coexistence of the TLM, as well as, Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI.

The Holy Mass of Paul VI has been a flop, an abject failure, chasing millions away. All of your postings won’t change that
