CARDINAL BURKE CELEBRATES THE MODERN VERNACULAR MASS FOR THE FEAST OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA AT NEW JERSEY’S BLUE ARMY SHRINE

AND THE GOOD CARDINAL CELEBRATES THE VERNACULAR MASS AD ORIENTEM!

But, unfortunately, as simplified as the rubrics are for the Modern Mass, those at the altar, apart from Cardinal Burke, stumble over each other in a less that choreographed manner, kind a chaotic to say the least.

And the MC realizing that the altar mic is not on, walks around the ad orientem Cardinal Burke to turn it on and of course to tap it a few times while the Cardinal is leading the vernacular Confiteor.

When the liturgy is dumbed now, it is dumbed down even further by those who have no liturgical sense that the TLM inspires. Oh well!

Those were some funny moments. I was disappointed that the MC didn’t thump the mic with the mea culpa.

So what is to be made of this? That the Mass can be done reverently but that we are basically starting over?

As he prayed at the altar, there were numerous front camera shots of Cardinal Burke. The person who directed the video had deemphasized Cardinal Burke's ad orientem posture.

=========================================================================================

Speaking of Cardinal Burke, he has insisted that the SSPX are schismatic.

"[T]he fact of the matter is that the Priestly Society of St. Pius X is in schism since the late Abp. Marcel Lefebvre ordained four bishops without the mandate of the Roman Pontiff.

"And so it is not legitimate to attend Mass or to receive the sacraments in a church that's under the direction of the Priestly Society of St. Pius X."

Two days ago, Bishop Strickland denounced the SSPX as schismatic. Yesterday, in regard to the SSPX, Bishop Strickland flip-flopped. He tweeted:

"A correction…as Bishop Schneider has stated, the SSPX is not in schism. The SSPX continues to hold Tradition out for the Universal Church. The Eucharist of the SSPX is held as valid by the Catholic Church."

Do Bishops Schneider, and Strickland, trump Cardinal Burke in regard to the determination of the SSPX's status...that is, schismatic or not?

Other than a few Latin chants and the Roman Canon, the Mass was pretty banal. Even His Eminence can only do so much.

Last Saturday attended NO Mass. The Church is above average in beauty, is on the historically important list. The congregation behaved in an appalling manner. Kvechhing before Mass laudly. Interestingly, the average age of those present, about 400, roughly estimated, aged about 50 to 55 years old. Very few children present. Music was terrible although the organ in the facility is estimate to be worth more than $1 million. The organist played like a teenage driver might drive a Lamborghini. There was a lot of socializing even as the preaching was going on. The substance of the homily was a bit on the abstract side. Everyone went to communion as it is customary at NO Masses. I will not go back there again. Sunday watched a TLM on UTUbe. I finally calmed down.

Dear Mark,

Are you aware how often your sources are biased, and the reporting from such sources incomplete and or dishonest or only partially true - full context often ignored etc..

Mark, I've taken the time to reply yet again. Ask yourself why. Okay? Reflect on that, all right.

Eg - I've tried to explain to you what I was taught C . 40 years ago, at Sydney Uni, and later the CIS and Cambridge..and later had to practice as a journalist from the Middle East to North Africa to Eastern Europe...Mark, context is almost always important; at times, context is almost everything..

Selective and partial quoting of often biased sources (especially, for example,
that farce Where Peter Is)
- often ignoring context; at times ignoring the overall drift or significance of the full speech and or article...most times gets you no where..

Unlike others, I have never personally insulted or ridiculed.
I respect people who are very loyal people; but this at minimum problematic papacy (as at least a dozen plus times over past 1000 years has occurred before..) is not worthy of the great loyalty you are obviously capable of..

A recent example:

I recently sat through 30 minutes, listening to some biased, dishonest clown at Where Peter Is rambling on in a pathetic, dishonest, inarticulate malmist libelous manner re so-called cases or instances of teenage boy sex abuse and some adult female abuse in several TLM societies and communities...
Such cases HAVE occurred but are infinitely miniscule to the numbers of say, Jesuit and Paulist priests, mainstream NO clerics who have abused, molested and worse teenage boys, and vulnerable, young men..

Plus, the Church would be several billions of $$$ richer had a hundred plus NO Bishops handled child/ teenage sex abuse acts or allegations like the leadership of the SSPX...that is 1000 times documented fact and reality..

The above specific instance, Mark, is one of 101 I could give - having undertaken the penance of seriously checking out Where Pacha Is..and Amerika , The Bitter Pill, The Tablet etc..

Peace and good wishes,
Your fellow Catholic,

Paul.

John,

I agree. Largely, my experience too..

I attended my first Sunday SSPX Mass 2 days ago; after over 2 years watching their Masses on YouTube; and listening to their (mostly youngish!) priests talk on various topics and matters..online.

I think from now on, my attending a standard NO Mass will only be for baptisms, weddings or funerals.

Enough is enough!

You would get a more reasonable response from a brick wall. He is impervious to reason, just a PF drone, but nice try

Paul said..."Plus, the Church would be several billions of $$$ richer had a hundred plus NO Bishops handled child/ teenage sex abuse acts or allegations like the leadership of the SSPX..."

Paul, my understanding is that the SSPX has a very poor record in regard to the above.

Catholic News Agency, owned by EWTN, has reported negatively in regard to the SSPX's involvement in clergy sexual abuse.

The same applies to National Catholic Register reports in question.

Earlier this year, Catholic News Agency (EWTN) reported:

-- Kansas clergy sex abuse investigation reports 188 clergy members suspected of crimes

Jan 11, 2023

"Kansas authorities investigating clerical sex abuse have identified 188 Catholic and Society of St. Pius X clergy members who are suspected of committing various crimes, according to a report released following a four-year-long investigation."

I said:

Paul, the Kansas City Star reported:

"The Star began looking into the matter earlier this year when a woman with relatives in St. Marys told the newspaper that the KBI (Kansas Bureau of Investigation) was investigating SSPX.

"Since then, several people have told The Star that they have contacted the KBI to report sexual abuse or inappropriate behavior by SSPX priests and employees as well as a cover-up by the leaders.

"Others said agents working on the investigation have contacted them in recent months."

"There’s no benefit of the doubt anymore. This is corruption," said Jassy Jacas, a St. Marys woman who recently posted details on her Facebook page of what she said was inappropriate behavior by an SSPX priest she had gone to for counseling.

"Jacas said she reported her concerns all the way up the SSPX leadership chain starting in 2018 and was assured that action had been taken. But she said she later learned that no investigation was ever conducted and that the priest was serving as principal of an SSPX school in Florida."

“I had never prayed so much in my life,” she said of her decision to go public. “But I knew it was the right thing to do.” Even so, she said, “I was still very heartbroken, and it wasn’t until I heard many, many stories from victims that I started getting on the angry side.”

Jacas said the KBI is looking into allegations against multiple SSPX priests.

"At the time I met them, they had said eight different (SSPX) priests with incidents that happened in Kansas," she said.

Again, the above is just in Kansas.

If Mark Thomas would stop being a bootlicker he could go to Bishop Accountability and educate himself, but he won’t.

Paul said...

Mark,

I have better sources than yours regarding numbers of SSPX child sex abuse case allegations etc and how they were handled.

But why bother...

I think I give up.

Oh...one last try:

Mark,

If you had an audience with Pope Francis and he told you:

1. Your understanding of the papacy, Mark, and the near perfect holiness and greatness, Mark, you believe of, say, Paul VI and myself, Francis...is simply simplistic, often erroneous and more or very often unhelpful to any mature Catholic who has the Faith..

2. Or Mark, if Francis personally told you or told the world something like :

"...in all humility I must admit my weaknesses and failings as Pope - when people have said the Church has been influenced and damaged by the whims of a flawed, eccentric old man...I now have to admit they were right..thus to the City and the World I announce my resignation.. "

What would you say and write then, Mark?

And if you believe something like the above could never happen...

Well history teaches us that over almost 2,000 years of Christianity/Catholicism and Bishops of Rome, much.. VERY much more stranger things have happened in the history of the papacy !!

Paul, in regard to your sources and the SSPX...

All that I can say is that the Kansas Bureau of investigation is investigating the SSPX in regard to clergy sexual abuse.

Also, earlier this year, Catholic News Agency (EWTN) reported:

"Kansas authorities investigating clerical sex abuse have identified 188 Catholic and Society of St. Pius X clergy members who are suspected of committing various crimes, according to a report released following a four-year-long investigation."

============================================================================

Bishop Accountability has many stories in regard to the SSPX and clergy sexual abuse.

Example: Last Month...

In Minnesota, SSPX priest, Father Matthew Stafki, admitted to having molested his 9-year-old niece.

Stafki had been charged with four offenses. He had plea-bargained to have three of the charges dropped.

There were three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor. There was one count "of using electronic communication to describe sexual conduct with a child."

In Missouri, Father Stafki had "also taught religion to children ages 5–9 at Queen of the Holy Rosary School during the 2020–21 school year, also run by the SSPX."

Father Stafki, would teach during the week, then return to Minnesota on weekends. His hearing is next month. He could receive as much as 25 years in prison.

He, and his victim, need our prayers.

Mark, Bishop Strickland issued a correction of himself. That’s not a flipflop but a very manly and humble thing to do.

Anonymous said...

rcg, thank you for your response.

Flip-flop: "a sudden reversal"...Merriam Webster Dictionary.

Bishop Strickland had flip-flopped (reversed suddenly) in regard to his declaration related to the SSPX and schism.

Again, thank you for your response.

Pax.

Mark Thomas

In regard to Bishop Strickland's false notion that Pope Francis is a menace to the Sacred Deposit of Faith:

CCC #85: "The task of giving an authentic interpretation of the Word of God, whether in its written form or in the form of Tradition, has been entrusted to the living teaching office of the Church alone. Its authority in this matter is exercised in the name of Jesus Christ."

"This means that the task of interpretation has been entrusted to the bishops in communion with the successor of Peter, the Bishop of Rome."

CCC #882: The Pope, Bishop of Rome and Peter's successor, "is the perpetual and visible source and foundation of the unity both of the bishops and of the whole company of the faithful."

Holy Mother has also declared that "the Catholic religion has been preserved ever immaculate in the Apostolic See."

rcg,

Something Mark Thomas, who lied about Father McDonald’s statement a while back, has not been man enough to do

rcg said...

Mark, “flip-flop” in this is more than a simple change in position. It includes that the change was made due to public opinion to improve political standing. It appears that Bishop Strickland changed his opinion of the status of the SSPX based on education.

Anonymous said...

rcg, I have not encountered from Bishop Strickland as to why he had flip-flopped in regard to his having labeled the SSPX "schismatic."

If he has done so, then I would like to read his explanation in question.

For now, one could offer your explanation. Or, one could offer that he had wished to appease his right-wing, pro-SSPX supporters.

Anyway, I hope that he will demonstrate humility so as to flip-flop in regard to his destructive, anti-Catholic portrayal of Pope Francis as a menace to the Sacred Deposit of Faith.

rcg, thank you. Have a blessed day.

Pax.

Mark Thomas

rcg said...

Dang, Mark, if he had changed his position solely to appease a group then that would be counterfactual and i.e. a flip-flop. Rather, he stated that he was in error with that information wrt the SSPX being in full communion. That doesn’t need more explanation because you can’t give any more explanation.
