LET’S JUST FACE IT AND THE POPE AND HIS SYNODAL ENTHUSIASTS NEED TO HEAR THIS, NO ONE, ESPECIALLY ON THE PAROCHIAL LEVEL, GIVES A FLYING DAMN ABOUT THE SYNOD ON SYNONDS AND THAT IS THE SACRED SENSUUM FIDELIUUM

A longer article from America Magazine which you can read HERE has this money byte:

In a recent piece for Commonweal, Massimo Faggioli lamented, “There just seems to be a feeling of indifference about the whole thing.” Mr. Faggioli speaks from within the university, and he is worried his students simply care about other things; he is worried, too, that theologians have not been welcomed fully into the process. He is probably right.

But being a parish priest, I think parochially, and what Mr. Faggioli says of Catholic universities can also be said of U.S. parishes.

The article goes on to say there is a grave apathy in the Church today, a kind of depression from my perspective. Certainly, progressives or liberals have always been a snooty dour type and Pope Francis is no exception. He does not generate enthusiasm with his negativity about young people who love tradition, priests who want to be priests and not social worker and nuns who are pickle pusses and those who reproduce like rabbits.

We can’t say that about Pope Benedict or Pope St. John Paul II. Benedict managed to ignite enthusiasm among young people for the liturgy and the older form of it and his talk about reform in continuity reignited Catholic identity, customs and culture. People were recovering from the loss of Catholic identity and culture after Vatican II and the puritanical Protestant form of Catholicism progressives desired for the Church.

That youthful enthusiasm has vanished and conservatives/traditionalists are like abused spouses for trying to reignite Catholic identity in continuity with the Church prior to Vatican II which was Pope Benedict’s vision.

Now we have snooty, dour and apathetic traditionalists just like their progressive counterparts.

A synod on synods. What a joke considering all that is wrong with the current Church since 2013!

Synods are just a diversion to make it look like the Church is doing something. Things are spiraling out of control fast - the Church was not in good shape before the pandemic and it is almost terminal in many parts of the US. I read a comment from Father Ferguson, a British priest who has his own blog, and he stated more than half of the young men he knows want to celebrate the EF. No wonder the leftwing loonies in Rome and elsewhere are in a panic. Liberalism is a spent force in Catholicism but these types just can’t handle the truth. They are malicious

I have a close friend who has a Doctorate in Theology and taught at a Catholic University his entire career but who no longer practices the Catholic Faith. I remember well when we were out for pizza one evening during our college days (early 1970s) with our girlfriends and he offered, "well everyone is talking about women priests!!!" I turned to my girlfriend, now wife, and asked her if this was important to her. She said no. Then I asked his girfriend and she said absolutely not, never thinks about it. And that my friends is what is wrong with many academics. They believe because they talk about these subjects amongst themselves, that everyone must feel the way they do. By the way, my wife and his girlfriend are still practicing Catholics. Ironic, isn't it?
