Cardinal Marx: ‘The Catechism is Not Set in Stone. One is Also Allowed to Doubt What it Says’

Cardinal Marx’s comments are part of a growing push within the German Church for changes to the Catechism’s teaching on homosexuality.

An aging hierarchy that KNOWS what direction the younger members of the Church prefer, who KNOW what the truths of the faith are, but insist on having THEIR way in spite of the evidence.

"Younger priests and families prefer an un-compromised faith."
BISHOPS AND CARDINALS: "I don't care."

"The Traditional Mass draws young people and families."
BISHOPS AND CARDINALS: "I don't care."

"The Church has ALWAYS condemned sexual sins, especially those of a perverse nature."
BISHOPS AND CARDINALS: "I don't care."

"The dioceses that embrace modernism have the fewest vocations and are closing parishes."
BISHOPS AND CARDINALS: "I don't care."

"Lawsuits associated with the lax morals and promiscuity of poorly formed clergy have cost the Church billions."
BISHOPS AND CARDINALS: "I don't care."

Evidently their personal sexual urges speak more profoundly to these effeminate disgraces than the truths of the faith. We have leaders saying that we must "listen to the Spirit". I think there is some serious confusion about just WHICH spirit is is that they are listening to.

Their very actions reveal that they KNOW this nonsense is wrong. But they continue to sing Hell's theme song: MY WAY.

Is the cheap thrill of gay sex was worth an eternity in Hell?

Is courting popularity with the zeitgeist worth one's soul?

For years I've been angry and part of me still is because of what these "bishops" are doing to the innocent.

But in the long run, these less-than-manly men are to be pitied.

Jerome Merwick,

Excellent. Marx is a heretic

I am starting to suspect that this past week's consecration didn't work.

The link above takes us to a story where Cardinal Marx PUBLICLY and UNAPOLOGETICALLY admits that he "blessed" a homosexual "union" a few years ago.

There is only one remedy for this kind of scandal>

EXCOMMUNICATION.

But of course, we know what's going to happen.

My reading of what Marx said and much of what he said is quite troubling, is that he blessed two people in a same sex union, he did not bless the union and he said marriage was reserved to a man and a woman. Priests at Mass bless everyone in attendance at every Mass at the end. People are blessed, objects are blessed and gatherings are blessed. Sin is never blessed. He comes close to blessing sin and saying sin isn’t sin, but he doesn’t seem to have blessed a sinful union only two sinful people. Maybe I am splitting hairs.

What I do agree with is that we have to find a way not to demonize homosexual sinners. We certainly don’t demonize heterosexual sinners, many of whom resort to the same type of sex that alarms those who oppose same sex unions. Let’s get real on this.

We don’t want to obsess of someone’s sexuality or the ways that heterosexuals and homosexuals experience it. The Church and Jesus aren’t the gestapo. We offer a way of life that we are free to choose or reject, each choice having ramifications. Those ramifications should be taught in general terms.

In private pastoral counseling, when the official Church is approached for advice and counsel, the Church should give the teachings of the Church and the reasons for it without condemning those seeking the counsel who might reject it.

Ultimately God is the judge of the Church and of individual sinners.

Don’t we already have two churches? We’ve had the Ape of the Church since 65

This Cardinal is a loon and the Pope should have accepted his resignation when he offered it. You can bet PF would have accepted it in a nanosecond if he had been a conservative. The Church in Germany is dying out save for the more traditional orders and parishes. The last time I was in Munich for Sunday Mass there were about 2 dozen people at the principal Mass on Sunday. I doubt, post pandemic, Mass attendance there has improved. If the Pope were wise he would ignore any advice they offer.

On a side note, homosexuality is more rampant in Germany than in most European cultures. Even the upper echelon of the Nazi Party had them and Berlin is gay central. So Marx is merely conforming to German culture, the polar opposite of what Vatican II called for

ARE YOU SERIOUS FATHER?

That statement might have had some shade of credibility in 1973, but today? Seriously?

HOMOSEXUALS are the most protected, coddled and privileged of all the competing "victim" groups vying for special status and veneration.

How about finding a way to stop demonizing people who believe in the traditional concept of male/female relationships? How about protecting these people from being fired or suffering other types of violence for merely having some morals? How about protecting THEIR free speech while every form of sexual deviance holds sway in the media. Homosexuality, transgenderism and every other assorted perversion is shoved down our throats with the double indignity of listening to all of these proud "victims" complain all the while about how we persecute them.

BULLSH_T.

Stop playing their game Father. You should know better.

You have to forgive Cardinal Marx because he's gorged on so much sauerbraten and wienerschnitzel that it's hard for him to see straight. Maybe his Lenten devotion is to eat more? Oops I forgot about tortes for dessert!

This Cardinal is a disgrace. His resignation was not accepted because Francis agrees with him. It's as simple as that. The sooner all these guys are flushed down the toilet the better off we'll be. It can't happen soon enough.

I will say that I was in Koln (Cologne) and attended Mass at the cathedral. Cardinal Woelki presided. It was a very well attended Sunday morning Mass and from start to finish, it was very much in the vain of Benedict XVI.

Michael A,

Apparently the sin of gluttony has gone off the books!

Jerome Merwick said...

Michael--the whole resignation thing was just theater. He had no intention of surrendering anything and the boss had no intention of accepting his phony offer to step down. It was contrived, rehearsed and sold to the public like a box of soap.

Greed is the only sin that exists in the liberal's mind, especially fat ones. There are no others except for maybe climate abuse which I guess they could argue is just another form of greed. Oh yes, there is white racism and we know that black racism doesn't exist. And any number of phobias, but if they are truly phobias then can they be sin?

I wonder if one of the priests might be able to confirm for us how many people are confessing their abuse of mother Earth? I don't think it's a violation of the Seal of the Confessional? BTW has the pope encouraged climate sinners to make sincere confessions. If not, why?

I'd like to confess that I think I have used too much weed killer on my lawn, that the car I drive has an engine that is too big and that I don't use Obama light bulbs in my house. The thing that is really bad is that I think I'm perhaps unrepentant.

Michael A,

Greed is only a sin if a non-lefty is wealthy. Obama has 2 seaside mansions and a nice home in DC. But he is exempt from criticism. Harry Truman in stark contrast went back to his wife’s family home in Independence after he was president. Harry said politicians who became wealthy off of government service are crooks
