The Russian Orthodox Church has been compromised for decades now, first through Communism and communist clergy masquerading as Church leaders and now the Russian Patriarch complimenting a mass murdering dictator.
It is a similar situation with Islam and the state in the Middle East. Their clerics are powerful political figures wielding weapons of mass destruction.
It is also similar to the Catholic Church and the state in European countries during the Medieval and Middle Ages where popes were even crusaders.
The point in all of this is to show how political power draws politically corrupt men to become clerics, not for religious purposes but for political. But yes, there is a religious purpose, to manipulate it for a political purpose which is corrupt.
Putin has put on a facade of being a Russian Orthodox Christian. He had the nerve to complain that the west is trying to cancel him because he opposes gender ideology and the LGBTQ etc etc etc movement.
Here he is trying to use Christian morals to manipulate evangelical and O/orthodox Christians, and yes, with a big O and little o, to side with him in what he presents as a culture war. Of course it is a corrupt power mongering war with mass murdering results.
Maybe he has sexual morals? Who knows and who cares! I doubt this narcissist has any morals. But like so many corrupt Catholic politicians, he claims his Christianity as a badge of honor and motives. He uses the cover of religion and culture warrior morals to promote his own murderous interests. That is called corruption and it has happened and does happen in the Catholic Church. Think Biden and other Catholic politicians of any party who use religion to promote their corrupt ideologies, like promoting mass murdering abortion policies as good. And popes and bishops refuse to call them out by name. Sound familiar?

We should not get too uppity. The Church's tax exempt status in the US has corrupted the Church in the US.
Unfortunately - maintaining the Church's status as a 501c3 (tax exempt) overshadows the obligation to be morally definitive and active. The diocese (and I suppose many others) has a specific policy and guidelines about what the clergy may and may NOT say about politicians and elections.

The way our compromised media and "president" Biden are presenting this war is WAY too suspiciously black and white: "Zelensky good/Putin bad".
I am not calling Putin a saint, but there are a host of very complicated reasons behind this war that are begin ignored by our media. While I cannot condone Putin bombing civilian targets (gee, WE never did that) I have to admire him for trying to keep the stench of the whole western LGBTQ nonsense out of his country. At least ONE world leader seems to have a pair.

You can thank Lyndon Johnson for the change to the tax code to hamstring Churches. St. John Paul II scolded the American bishops about their timidness and when they raised the tax code with him he said they should consider relinquishing tax exempt status
The Russian Orthodox, it seems to me, are still finding their way out of the control that the Soviets exerted during their time in power. The Church leaders had to toe the line drawn by the Kremlin to enjoy the freedoms they had in those dark days. Following the collapse of the system, they were a bit adrift, being, for the first time in two or almost three generations, able to set their own course.
Kiril was his Church's representative to the World Council of Churches, an organization from with a number of Orthodox bodies have withdrawn or significantly limited their participation in the last couple of decades. One of the struggles is the lack (absence?) of a unified Orthodox vision for ecumenical participation.
I pray that Kiril and the other Orthodox leaders can find a way to move forward in their quest for unity and in their quest to be an evangelical presence.

A correction to your post. In medieval Europe Church and state had a more or less symbiotic relationship. Political realities militated against extreme papal claims (e.g. Gregory VII) and if the State encroached on matters which were the preserve of the Church, for example during the Investiture Contest, the Church usually prevailed.
Crusades required papal sanction but the popes were not crusaders and once a crusade was launched they had no effective control over events. Innocent III tried to micro-manage the Fourth Crusade but it ended up sacking Constantinople (1204).
Christ is King and any effort to separate church from state is Masonic, which the Modernist NO church embraces. America was founded and formed by Mason’s that had to destroy the monarchy just a little less extreme then the French a few years later. USA has been on a slow roll to hell just as our church these last 100 years or so has been on a slow roll to heresy and apostasy. All revolutions have their hidden master in the name of Satan who seeks the ruin of souls through lies and death. I’ve been listening to the SSPX podcasts and learning a lot of late.Who in our church will defend our King?
Everything that is happening now in the world is God’s plan to slap us out of our long slumber as our nation has slowly rotted to sodom and Gomorrah. I won’t be surprised if it’s us that gets annihilated as Our Lady mentioned. We no longer deserve Gods protection with our sodomy and murder of the unborn and abuse of his little ones in their child rape that so many depraved souls take joy in watching.
As for Putin he’s no different then and Western leader and as for Ukraine the fighting has been going on since 2014 with 14000 dead in those eight years in the Eastern provinces. Putin will consolidate his control from Crimea up to the east through the Neo-Nazis in Mariupol and call it done. Everything else was done to hold Ukraine in place while he achieved these goals.
And no I won’t praise a high-heel dancing sodomite. I feel pity for the people of Ukraine who are simply pawns being thrown away by the EU Zane NATO and the senile demented Joe Biden.
Ukraine has been the piggy bank for corrupt politicians from both parties from Biden to the likes of McCain and Miss Lindsey.
There’s No Conspiracies but their are also no coincidences.
