Our choir director took this photo (blurry, I know) of our 7 PM Ash Wednesday Mass. And I was shocked when I saw what was happening at the Our Father. Shocked, I say! I have to say, I had no idea that this was going on and I am facing the congregation! Shocked! I say! Do you see it?????????????

Don't panic, Father! Even at Solemn Mass (Latin) at the Oxford Oratory I have seen the odd person (usually female) adopt not the 'beachball' posture, but the palms-up posture as if she were carrying a large parcel.
I'm not sure where this practice originated. Perhaps someone saw how Moslems pray and thought 'wow, that's cool' and it spread from there.
Imposing postures on the congregation is so Novus Ordo, so let them get on with it.
My posture during the Pater Noster is hands in blazer pockets, thumbs forward, like naval officers in old British war films.
Dang. John beat me to the buzzer. t least they aren’t holding hands like a human chain at the capital.
Two pastors ago enforced the chain holding of hands during the our father, even backed up and grabbed the servers hands. Bet that wasn't EVER done in the old rite!!
The orans position just sort of followed and if I read the GIRM correctly that is considered a mockery of the priest, that position is reserved to the priest, or have i been misled

one thing leads to another, as they say. Monkey see monkey do
Years ago when I was serving as a cantor the priest came over to me and wanted to hold my hand for the Pater. I picked up the missal and he did not press the matter but after Mass asked me why I would not hold his hand. I told him I don’t hold grown mens’ hands, my grandchild yes, but not grown men. He respected my choice
Didn’t this start with the Charismatic movement?
Another reason why I don’t it’s the NO
