SOMEHOW THE ANALOGY LIMPS

Elizabeth Scalia tries to nail it but hits her own thumb! Read her commentary and unusual spin HERE. My comments below.

Dolan is Charged to Model Christ, Not the Pharisees

Feast in the House of Levi_Veronese
"So he got up and went back to his father. While he was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him."
Reread the last two sentences. It didn’t matter why the son was seeking inclusion; the father did not know whether he was coming home repentant or full of swagger. Motivation did not matter. All the father knew was that the son had made a move toward home, and it was enough to send the father running out, to meet him.
I doubt that those who flaunt their sins seeing these sins as virtues acknowledge Cardinal Dolan as their Father or the Church as their Holy Mother. Any suggestion that those marching under the "Gay Alliance" banner are in need of repentance and the Sacrament of Penance would be anathema to them.

Elizabeth Scalia, Cardinal Dolan, Cardinal Weurl, Cardinal Kasper etc. would do well to carefully reflect on a reading from St. Paul from todays Mass:

1 Cor 6:1-11 "Do not be deceived; neither fornicators nor idolaters nor boy prostitutes nor sodomites nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God".

All to often in todays Church sins of the flesh are justified or rationalized "God understands.....blah blah blah". Yet theses sins are explicitly condemned in both testaments and Our Lady at Fatima said more people condemn themselves to hell because of sins of the flesh more than any other sin. And what Scalia fails to mention is yes embrace the sinner but call that sinner to conversion, which Dolan has not done. You don't get on national television and say "Bravo" and that you have no problem with a person advocating living an immoral life. Cardinal Dolan needs to do public penance and apologize or be removed. He has been a scandal for years but this latest episode is beyond scandal it's betrayal of Christ and YES I judging his actions. Yes I am judging what he did to be a sin.

God loves sinners and hates sin. Is that really so complicated?

The special interest group that Cardinal Dolan has caved into is going to use the "civil rights" banner as a club to beat the Church. How sad, since it is the Church that holds the key to saving them. We are all sinners and we all need Jesus Christ. Co-opting his Church's feast days as implicit approval of a "lifestyle" that is completely opposed to the Church isn't coming home to Jesus Christ. It's exploiting Him.

Well, here's what I wrote on my own blog in regards to this situation with some minor edits:

a. Cardinal Dolan, no people are not condemning him, but yes, those that are calling him out are right.

Over at Restore DC Catholicism, there's a video on the Vortex on wicked Bishops with not much commentary...but I have plenty of them, few of them nice...but all of them charitable...

It would be one thing if this was the first time Cardinal Dolan capitulated to the culture....everyone's allowed to "make mistakes" so to speak, however; from the Al Smith Dinner, call God him, her, whoever you want, Bravo for Michael Sam, Ss Francis of Assisi and Francis Xavier parish, to the cheesehead, denying the Faith in front of Muslims, the list goes on and on, but you get the point, it's not the first time that something like this has happened.

If the homosexual people marching in the parade had no banner whatsoever, it wouldn't be a problem, why? Because their sin is being kept private, so because it's internal, we can't judge (TM) we don't know of their attitude, how the incident occurred, etc.

But with the banner, there is an announcement that this is the particular sin that they are doing. Through their own words, they are saying that this particular action is occurring, we're not repenting, we're not changing...We want you to know this is what we're doing. As such this is now an external situation, so actions can indeed be judged. So when a Cardinal Archbishop becomes the marshall of the event, indirectly, he's giving confirmation to what's going on (For better or for worse) by his presence.

Let's say two people are standing outside a porn store. One obviously can't say anything in this situation, why? One doesn't know whether they're a. going inside. b. walking past or c. protesting. Any of the three options could be done, and one wouldn't know. Now let's add to the situation..let's say these two people have banners saying I love porn, and watch it daily. What is one to do now? In this situation, two people are publicly proclaiming their sin for everyone to know. Similarly in our situation with the parade if people are walking, we don't know what's going on in their private lives. Insert the banners, now we know, so it means by definition we must take a stand.

And as such, while I may not know the personal state of a particular soul (and I really don't want to), actions can be seen, and since public approval was de facto given, it is right to call Cardinal Dolan (or anyone else) for the actions that are going on, and to ask the question, what's up with this?

Surely, I don't think anyone's happy to say these words, and would much rather have repentance...but as we've seen, this is a continuation of behavior, and so the only just thing to happen here would be for a "Cardinal Abdication" or resignation as is called for in the video. Quite frankly, yes we're not supposed to place our trust in princes indeed, but it is difficult to follow, or to even care when those above us don't care or place themselves in front to protect us from the evil wolves. I can't begin to tell you how many times I get discouraged, when I see the Bishops' repeating the same failed policies from before. It's like why bother fighting, if we're not going to be helped in our battle against the culture?

Enough! Let the truth be spoken, and if one doesn't want to be called out....here's a strange but rather intuitive idea...don't cause by one's actions.

That said, I want everyone to do a Holy Hour on Sunday Sept 14th (Exaltation of the Holy Cross) for Cardinal Dolan, for priests, in particular for the virtue of fortitude in the Faith.

I think it's also fair to say that Scalia's comparison of Catholics who disagree with the Cardinal being Pharisees is shallow and inconsistent. Jesus attacked the Pharisees not because they kept the law, but because their hearts were not in it. He railed against them for creating unjust burdens for people and "locking them out" of Heaven. Christ and those who try to follow him love all sinners and want them to be saved. However, we must objectively state that certain mortal sins create a roadblock to salvation. To deny it is not charitable or compassionate. Jesus said He came to fulfill the law and so He did. Of course His mercy is infinite, but we cannot presume to escape His justice. Demanding the right to proudly march and proclaim our attachment to mortal sin is an act bereft of humility and opposed to justice. Cardinal Dolan has thoroughly blown this one. It would be very salutary for the faithful to see that he would have the humility to admit it.

I wonder to myself why Cardinal Dolan is doing this. It wasn't that long ago that this group wouldn't have been allowed to march in this parade and if they had been allowed to, no Cardinal of New York would have participated. St Paul warned those he preached to in the strongest terms not to accommodate themselves to the decadence and immorality of the Greco-Roman culture. I would hope the Cardinal reconsiders. This is a sad commentary on how the Church of the True Faith in New York is sliding into irrelevancy and how too many Catholics there have surrendered to the norms of the secular culture. If this realization is what lies behind his decision I still believe it to be ill-advised. We must pray for Cardinal Dolan and the Catholics of New York.
