Symbolic meaning tied into Jesus’ Passion, Death and Resurrection has always been applied to the Catholic Mass and its various practical actions. The ancient form of the Traditional Latin Mass is very ritualized and pungent with symbolic meaning. Unfortunately, much of that ”high symbolism” applied to the Mass was stripped away, like Jesus was stripped of His garments at the Passion, when the Mass was reformed with the 1970 Roman Missal.
