I HAVE POSTED THIS VIDEO BEFORE OF AN ORDINARY FORM MASS (MODERN ROMAN MISSAL) CELEBRATED AS A SOLEMN SUNG MASS WITH DEACON AND "SUB-DEACON" AND I POST IT AGAIN AS THIS IS THE WAY FORWARD ...

This was my last Christmas Midnight Mass at Saint Joseph Church in Macon. It was December 25, 2015 beginning at 12 AM midnight.

It is a hybrid of English and Latin.

I defy anyone to tell me this isn't as beautiful, solemn and reverent as any TLM Mass even in itsSolemn Sung Form:

Very nice. Do you think you will retain the ad orientem option?

I think our bishop is open to this for the EF mass communities when their masses are the modern Latin Mass.

Speaking generally, the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI is unacceptable to "traditionalists."

"Beautiful, solemn, reverent," Novus Ordo Mass is meaningless to said folks. The Novus Ordo Mass is not the "true Mass."

To "traditionalists," the Novus Ordo Mass is the Bugnini/Protestant/Jewish/Masonic "imposter" (Peter Kwasniewski's term) Mass that must be destroyed.

Trads have insisted for decades that attendance at the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI will shatter one's faith.

Holy priests who offer the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI serve spiritual poison to their spiritual children, according to "traditionalists."

Therefore, good luck in attempting to interest "traditionalists" in the supposed Faith-shattering, Bugnini/Protestant/Jewish/Masonic "imposter" Mass.

I think the majority of pew-sitters would be at peace with something like this.

I don't think this alone will refill the churches but, will allow for a more macro change in attitude regarding divine worship, the ordering of the sanctuary, theology of the church temple and the respective roles of all participating. That's probably my Byzantine coming out.

Fr McDonald,

It's certainly reverent, but solemnity involves more than simply how it looks. I suspect that were you to do this now, you would include the Gregorian Propers (which are the same in both the Novus Ordo and the Vetus Ordo), have the 'subdeacon' read (or better still chant) the Epistle, and avoid singing Xmas carols during Mass.

The Mass had to me a distinctly Anglican feel, being mostly in the vernacular, with bits of the Tridentine Rite 'bolted on' in a somewhat arbitrary fashion. For example, the ambo was used by the lay reader but not by the deacon. And the Asperges is out of place, being reserved to the prrincipal Sunday Mass.

That said, celebrating ad apsidem and singing what can be sung (even in English) restores the necessary objectivity which is sadly lacking in most celebrations of the Novus Ordo.
