HAVEN’T I BEEN ADVOCATING FOR THIS ALL ALONG!

All these photos are the Modern Roman Missal’s celebration of Mass—this is the way to go! The propers, Latin, ad orientem and kneeling for Holy Communion. Even the Jesuit Magazine, America, is suggesting this! Have they been reading my most humble blog????? Please read our Diocesan decree publish on July 15th and the Jesuit Magazine, America, and its suggestion for the modern Mass and traditionalists reeling from what Pope Francis has wrought:

In the Diocese of Savannah, the celebration of the 1962 Roman Missal will cease on May 20, 2023. However, a Novous Ordo Mass celebrated with EF sensibilities as I have done at Saint Anne Church in Richmond Hill when I was pastor there is quite possible and even the Jesuit Magazine, America, is recommending it and suggesting bishops not stop this development!

You can read the Diocese of Savannah decree HERE released July 15, 2022.

Father, with all due respect, this is an evil attack not just on the TLM,but also on those who attend it .

The fact that a Priest Celebtant must consciously attempt to add "traditional elements" to the Novus Ordo (making a silk purse out of a son's ear-if you will) shows just how vapid the Novus Ordo is.In my Diocese the Bishop has specifically instructed that no rubrics other than those specifically mentioned in the Novus Ordo may be included or used. This deliberately excludes your "Reform of the reform.

I am firmly of the opinion that the Liturgical War now unleashed upon the Church by both Pope Francis and his minions in Savanah is an "either or" situation.Compromise is out of the question.(And so is financial support of such a diocese;"let them eat cake"!

Father McDonald,

It is evident that Bishop Parkes probably did not think this would be the result. He strikes me as a kind man and not a leftwing ideologue like the ones dominating this papacy. I am glad other bishops are simply ignoring this uncharitable, non pastoral and likely ultra vires decree. At some future date it will likely be tossed on the ashbin of history. If I lived in an area where the SSPX, FSSP or IKC operated, I would simply opt out and go to one of their chapels. The Novus Ordo is NOT what Sacrosanctum Concilium called for and anyone with a brain knows it.

"Along with Fr. Allan McDonald (Bishop’s Delegate for Mass in the Extraordinary Form), the Priests who celebrate these Masses will accompany the attendees in the coming months as the transition is made to Mass in conformity with the decrees of the Second Vatican Council."

Under normal circumstances, I have no big problem with Bishop Parkes. However, this letter marks an exception. Please, please, your excellency, DO NOT INSULT OUR INTELLIGENCE by referring to the Novus Ordo and all of the liturgical distortions it invite as anything remotely "in conformity with the decrees of the Second Vatican Council."

The Novus Ordo as we know was NOT decreed by the Council and it flies in the face of Sacrosanctum Concilium.

You know it.

I know it.

Every Catholic who has read the documents knows it.

If you have to slavishly obey this highly questionable pontiff, I don't hold that against you. But at LEAST be honest with us. This is BUGNINI'S creation, the the Second Vatican Council. Please stop repeating this shameful, embarrassing lie.

I meant to say, "NOT the Second Vatican Council's."

So help me, the next priest I hear invoking this wretched version of the Mass on Vatican II is going to get a copy of the conciliar documents in paperback aimed at his thick head.

Well, no, I can't do that either--that would be sacrilege.

But I know when I'm being lied to.

I appreciate your thoughts on a 'reform of the reform' approach to the Novus Ordo Mass, Fr. McDonald. I actually attend such a Mass at my parish. Nonetheless, it's pretty obvious that such a Mass won't be tolerated after Rome attempts their complete suppression of the Traditional Latin Mass. It's all about the hermeneutic of rupture these days and frankly these continued attacks on a Mass that deeply aids Catholics in this increasingly post-Christian world is demonic.

Father, have you seen this parish?

This parish seems to model just like you Father, a great way to celebrate the OF!

Drew, it is very peculiar to say the least. Of course, I have been writing on this blog that Traditionalists were becoming too radicalized as it concerns even the proper interpretation of Vatican II or what Pope Benedict advocated and rejecting it and the reformed Mass. I have known people who thought they were going to an EF Mass when they discovered it would be a very traditional OF Mass would get up and leave. That is obnoxious and any bishop including the pope should challenge that. But what Pope Francis has done is extreme. I would say he has a psychological problem with Tradition and continuity. I hope even the more progressive cardinals see that and will be more pastoral and sane if we get another liberal pope.

Carter, yes, Greenville, South Carolina has had a very traditional OF Mass where active/actual participation is very hearty. My mortal sin of seeing what I perceive to be the fly in the ointment is the speed of the procession. Speed it up, but the music, both the Gregorian Chant and the congregations singing of the metrical hymn are great.

Jerome Merwick,

Spot on! Rome can continue to prevaricate but we know the truth. A priest friend of mine, long deceased, was a peritus at the Council. He was a Latinist and expert in Biblical Greek. He said the Council Fathers intended some minor “pruning” such as condensing the PATFOTA and eliminating certain repetitions like the Domine Non Sum Dignus, an expanded lectionary, and allowing for some vernacular for the non Ordinary prayers but that was it. No change to versus populum or the manner in which Holy Communion is received. I believe him because he was there and was a very truthful type. He was shocked by the Novus Ordo

St. Mary's in Greenville is a liturgical oasis in a liturgical desert. The pastor got in bigtime trouble when he told his congregation to go to confession if they voted for Obama. Such is the state of the Catholic Church when he was reprimanded yet Joe Biden can still receive Holy Communion. If I based my faith on what is going on in Rome right now, I would leave, with no hesitation. But I do not base my faith on who is the current Pope.

I cannot access the D of Savannah's announcement.

That said, I think the NO with traditional elements like you, Fr. AJM model would pastorally serve the needs of most people in a reasonable way.

The '70 is the missal of the Roman Church. Until there's another, why not just focus on doing it well. As I mentioned in a prior post, last weekend I attended a NO that while not ad orientem, modeling the '70 missal with '62 elements, their high altar is beloved, it is not ignored, it was tastefully decorated it is used for benediction and their masses have traditional elements like incense, ceremony crew with torches for holidays etc. The mass itself was sacred and honestly pleasant to have attended.

My mother's parish closer to Philadelphia is exactly the same. Perhaps its time to focus on doing one thing well instead of tearing ourselves apart.

ByzRus,

The problem with what you are saying is that in many diocese, like Chicago, you will get crushed like a bug if you try to do what you say. 1962 Elements have been forbidden by Cupich and the OF cannot be celebrated ad orientem without his express permission, which is rarely, if ever, given. The OF itself is a hodge-podge of options and the Faithful is totally at the mercy of the celebrant. When in Chicago, I will only go to St. John Cantius, and I suspect, they are next up for suppression by the tyranical Archbishop. If I were a young priest, I certainly would not go to the Archdiocese of Chicago until Cupich is gone and a better and more reasonable man takes his place.

Good point, Fr. McDonald. At the end of the day I was a convert during the pontificate of Pope Benedict XVI and I have always greatly appreciated the traditional Latin Mass. I'm thankful too that it's available at parishes here in the KCMO area and at my own parish from time to time on specific feast days. Nonetheless I have dealt with more progressive elements in the Church after my conversion and discernment for the diocesan priesthood on the West Coast where I use to live. It was certainly disheartening being told to check out the FSSP after everything when all I did was appreciate the traditions of the Church that our Pope at the time asked us to do. Overall, I'll just continue to pray for the Church and that the silly season will end someday.
