IF YOU REACT TO REACTIONARIES, DOES THAT MAKE YOU A REACTIONARY? THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK WANTS TO KNOW AS WELL AS REACTIONARY MINDS!

The Godfather of Reactionary Priests

Today’s lineup of outspoken reactionary US Catholics priests with extremist, conspiratorial, and inflammatory messages (examples include Frs. Altman, Nix, Heilman, Pavone, Zuhlsdorf, Murray, Ripperger, Msgr. George Rutler, and Bishop Joseph Strickland), as well as their even more bombastic lay counterparts (Voris, Marshall, Parrott, Ruse, Arroyo, and many others) owe a great debt to...

You just provided a list of fine, faithful Catholics. Thanks

Now provide a list of unfaithful Catholics, starting with Father Martin, LGBT

@TJM: I concur, it's a great list. Couple of unknown priests...but not for long.

I couldn't help but notice that the author compared Coughlin (or credited him with inspiring) these priests: Frs. Altman, Nix, Heilman, Pavone, Zuhlsdorf, Murray, Ripperger, Msgr. George Rutler, and Bishop Joseph Strickland. He also mentions some prominent lay persons: Voris, Marshall, Parrott, Ruse, Arroyo (yes, I pasted the names).

Now I will openly admit that I know nothing of Fathers Nix or Heilman, nor do I know anything of Mr. Parrott, Ruse and Marshall--which probably makes me an ignoramus in comparison with the more widely read who post here.

But in all fairness, I can't ever recall hearing ANY of these people--or should I say READING anything by any of these people--that was anti-Semitic, which seems to be Fr. Coughlin's primary offense.

What I have noticed in my lifetime is that any time a prominent Catholic says something inflammatory, they are often compared to Fr. Coughlin. But are we not called to be signs of contradiction in a world with misplaced priorities? Is there some rule that we have to sugar-coat the message of the Gospel or that we cannot call out wrongs when they occur? I think there's something wrong with people who CANNOT get angry about bad bishops, pervert priests, sexual abuse of children, economic tinkering to enlarge the government, manipulation of the gospel to justify government nannyhood and the financial misadventures of the USCCB, including their putrid "Campaign for Human Development". And thanks to Senator McCarthy, any concern expressed against communism has been reduced to "red-baiting"--no wonder BLM had such an easy time raising up the angry masses.

We are reaching the point where anything controversial that calls out the truth is condemned while outrages against our rights are cloaked in syrupy language. If I was an attorney, I would consider contacting some of these people and taking legal action in a libel suit. This stinks.

Definition of a reactionary: One who takes a step back when he sees a precipice at his feet.

John Nolan,

Bravo!

Father Coughlin meddled in politics on a nationally broadcast radio program. To my knowledge none of the gentlemen named pursue political agendas, per se like Coughlin, although they do advocate for the unborn, an impermissible sin for the leftwing in the US

ah yes, another "everyone is a Nazi" trope, so old so tired so that it has become useless.
Why can't the left think, oh, wait.....

TJM said...

The Egyptian,

Well since the left loves Communism you won’t hear “everyone is a Commie” coming from the left!

There is a good distinction being made here between Fr Coughlin and many of the names Fr McDonald offered up as "reactionary". I've listened to a number of these faithful Catholics and I find much of what they have to say, albeit with some amount of "bomb throwing', to be completely true and in line with what our church should be dealing with. If the alternative to these people is the milk toast variety of priests and bishops in positions of power today, I'll take the Michael Voris' of this world any day.

Tom Makin,

Amen. I am sick of the "Church of Nice" which is not doing the job

Good "Catholic" Joe Biden at it again. Would I be considered a "reactionary" for not being happy about this? Will Pelosi try and defend this?

" Catholic school officials are clamoring for changes to a proposed federal stimulus bill, saying that federal non-discrimination rules may drive them out of early childhood education.

“The rules as they’re written now would be catastrophic. It basically would force us to pull out of preschool and child care,” said Thomas Carroll, superintendent of schools for the Archdiocese of Boston, in a Nov. 30 telephone interview with the [National Catholic]Register."

This will cheer Father K up:

Democrat Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has vetoed five pro-life bills, including one that would allow the father to sue over an abortion he did not consent to.
