We all know that sex abuse of minors has existed in society and the Church. But studies indicated it was on steroids in the 70’s and 80’s in the Church and more than likely, society at large. A major shift in the Church of this period was its attitude toward psychiatric and psychiatric treatment and its results.
In this period, a number of “celebrity” priests who were psychologists/therapists/ psychiatrists, who ran in-house psychiatric facilities to treat priests in psychology trauma insisted that the bishops not only rehabilitate priests guilty of sex abuse, but place them back in ministry and like what Jesus taught about forgiveness, to do it an unlimited number of times. I am not making this up!
Bishops, who see themselves as spiritual fathers to their priests, of course wanted to do the most they could to cure their spiritual sons and reintegrate them back into the fullness of their priestly ministry.
Thus, the focus was on these priests, getting them healed and returning them to public ministry. In this period, concern for victims appears non existent and help afforded them was cloaked in secrecy and silence clauses.
While this story isn’t about sex abuse, I think it is related to this “theology” of enablement which Pope Francis clearly embraces especially with “All the Pope’s Men” many of whom have checkered pasts to say the least and checkered presents to say the least:
And with the sex abuse crisis, the blame game has to stop with the bishops who enabled it; the same with this pope, I fear in terms of Vatican corruption:

I agree wholeheartedly. The Bishops, and as of now this Pope, bear the responsibility for this. The dots connect all too definitively back to a significant number or reigning prelates; Gregory, Lori, Cupich, Vignaron, and Bambera to name just a few. ALL need to go NOW! No more silly conferences, synods, charters etc. Get out NOW. Enough already. They have ZERO credibility, and I include HFPF in this. I believe that my faith is the one true faith and so I love the Eucharist and Sacraments but as for the leadership, I'm done with the bulk of you.
Birds of a feather.
Tom Makin I gave up on this gang of corrupt losers long ago.
NOTHING will be done about this problem.
The leadership of the Church is infested. It is infested with Freemasonry. It is infested with Communists. It is infested with Homosexuals. It is infested with career men who serve an agenda that doesn't glorify God. It is even infested with atheists.
These are all various types of disordered thinking and disordered orientations. They are not going to risk letting anything or anyone pull them from their comfort zone.
There is a superforce at work and only the Blessed Mother and Her Son can free us from it. If the majority of bureaucrats in the Vatican were actually serious about turning the Church around, they know that they should do. They're not doing. They're not going to do it. They will continue to play games while we suffer.
Sorry I can't offer a brighter prognosis, but it's time to stop pretending.
Jerome Merwick,
The best we can hope for is beloning to a parish with an orthodox, believing Catholic pastor. I am so fortunate. He is in his early 30s and celebrates the EF once a week. During the pandemic he actually grew the parish and collections are up. Our pastor was an Ohio farmboy growing up not some snoot, ersatz intellectual
The US Catholic hierarchy is relatively healthy, important part of the Church, and consequently has an enormous responsibility for what is allowed to go on in the Church. The conference should give the Pope an ultimatum. I know it is "unthinkable". (How many unthinkable problems have been caused by.....?)
TJM:
Take it easy. We NEED those snoot intellectuals, ersatz or not, to help us appreciate the regular guys who make such great priests.
"Heat not a furnace for your foe so hot that it do singe yourself."
Jerome spot on, but remember what we have now is a new order revolution against God and these sodomites and their master in Hell won’t get be up control easily.
