ALTAR RAILING PROGRESS, DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY AND CANONIZATION OF TWO POPES

Here are some photos I just took of the progress of the altar railing restoration at St.Joseph Church, the image of Divine Mercy and the canonization of two popes.

The altar railing marble for the railing and the floors will be installed in several weeks from now, but the floor is ready for it. The hand railings you see, quite ugly, will be removed as well.

How exciting! Does this mean no more Eucharistic Ministers?

Desiree, those would be Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, no matter how very ordinary they have become in our parishes. I pray we may see an end to their use, or at least to their sense of entitlement.

In the Archdiocese of Atlanta, their service is declared explicitly to be at the discretion of the celebrant. Hover, in my parish, a vicar now at another parish tried to reduce the horde, and they rose up in complaint to the pastor, who chastised the vicar.

The sense of entitlement is, as far as I can comprehend it, a manifestation of sinful pride. And if more reasons were needed to cease their use, that one should more than suffice.

Fr. McDonald, though your parish is in the diocese adjacent to my own, and 110 miles from my home, I do long to come to Mass in your fine church. And all the more in anticipation of the restored railing.
