It certainly is everyone who attended. Along with those of us who remember both. And seems in the main to be the most broadly educated and sane of any which followed.

The worry is not those folk, but the ones who followed for whom the Vatican and Church is completely irrelevant to their atheist materialist pleasure seeking lives.

Still leaves me wondering what will happen next. Idealism is/was high in that generation, whether modernist or traditional, despite many of that idealistic generation going on to become the most affluent and worldly in the entire US history.

Still, these are the folk on both sides who have manned soup kitchens, worked for racial equality, joined the KOC, etc etc..

My distinct impression is the squabbling between the two camps a matter of utmost indifference as devoid of meaning to the generations which have followed. Even many of the influential billionaire oligarchs seeking to reshape the world are dying off or will be quite soon.

Leaving the world to those who just do not care, too empty to care, fueled only by internet rage over some latest shifting cause, the cause matters not, so long as they suck some meaning from it before moving on to the next fix.

Idealism seems essentially dead, leaving me to wonder from where will come the next folk who really care, care about ANYthing? When all which is left are those demanding pay for doing what formerly was seen as a religious or civic duty?

If any man says that the Church was Built Back Better after 1960 : let him be Anathema !

His Holiness, Pope Francis, stands with his holy predecessors who have recognized the Council's orthodoxy, as well as holy value to the Church.

However, Church's extreme wings — right and left — have long misrepresented, if not rejected, the Second Sacred Vatican Ecumenical Council. In having done that, right-wingers, and left-wingers, have assaulted God and His Holy Catholic Church.

As Pope Benedict XVI noted in 2013 A.D., when he heaped praise upon Vatican II, little by little, the authentic Council had taken root with the Church.

That process will accelerate when left-wingers, as well as right-wingers, cease their respective assaults upon Vatican II.

It is time that Vatican II's assailants leave Satan behind. It is time to stand with His Holiness, Pope Francis, as well as Hoy Mother Church, to implement God's Holy Council.

As Pope Benedict XVI declared in 2013 A.D.

"Therefore, this was the dominant one (the false Vatican II), the more effective one, and it created so many disasters, so many problems, so much suffering: seminaries closed, convents closed, banal liturgy … and the real Council had difficulty establishing itself and taking shape; the virtual Council was stronger than the real Council.

"But the real force of the Council was present and, slowly but surely, established itself more and more and became the true force which is also the true reform, the true renewal of the Church.

"It seems to me that, 50 years after the Council, we see that this virtual Council is broken, is lost, and there now appears the true Council with all its spiritual force.

"And it is our task...to work so that the true Council, with its power of the Holy Spirit, be accomplished and the Church be truly renewed."

Pax.

Here is an article from the Where Peter Is blog in regard to current topic:

https://wherepeteris.com/the-folly-of-the-build-it-yourself-magisterium/#disqus_thread

-- The folly of the build-it-yourself Magisterium

Of the Churchmen mentioned in the article, I would include Bishop Schneider among those who have spread grave errors in regard to Vatican II.

Bishop Schneider insisted last year that Vatican II contained grave errors. Bishop Schneider's verbal assault against Vatican II was an assault against Holy Mother Church.

Bishop Schneider, as well as others who have attacked Vatican II, need to heed the Vicar of Christ's declaration in regard to the Council.

That is, as Pope Francis made clear, to stand against the Council is to stand against the Church.

As Catholics, each of us needs to do his or her part to assist our Pope in the correct implementation of God's holy Second Vatican Council. That will help to unleash the Council's powerful holy force to renew the Church to our, and the world's, benefit.

Pax.

Correct implementation? LOL - if something takes 55 years to implement, there is something seriously wrong with either the documents or the implementers or both. Trent produced results rather quickly.

Most of us do not inhabit your dualistic black and white universe. The destructive forces which were unleashed on the Western Church in the 1960s and 1970s were certainly around before the Council, but the Council, if not a game-changer, was definitely a catalyst in that it speeded up change while remaining unchanged itself.

Benedict XVI's dichotomy between the 'true Council' and a false 'Council of the media' is as unconvincing as is his claim that there are two 'forms' of a single Roman Rite.

Fifty years after the Council of Trent there were no discussions or arguments as to how it should be 'correctly' implemented. If the decrees of Vatican II are so ambiguous and obscure that they are still a source of confusion, controversy and polarization, then there is a good case for ignoring them altogether.

How do you identify or define a 'powerful holy force', or explain why it has yet to manifest itself after more than half a century? If it were that powerful or holy it should have been able to withstand the machinations of those you identify as 'left wingers' and 'right wingers' and who have no existence outside your own fevered imagination.
