THE CRYSTAL CATHEDRAL IS BECOMING MORE CONCRETE AS THE CATHOLIC CHRIST CATHEDRAL IN ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

Unfortunately the concrete platform for the altar, ambo and cathedra is precisely that, a platform and not an authentic sanctuary. Why or why can't we get this right in 2018?????????? However, having a canopy or some kind of corona/baldachinno over the altar is a very fine restoration and should be mandated for every Catholic church as it was prior to Vatican II!

I visited the Crystal Cathedral shortly after it was acquired by the Catholic diocese and I was surprised that the floor space is much smaller than it appeared on television or in photos.  The chairs were very low, movie house type chairs, that folded up when you weren't in it. It needed help in terms of maintenance even when it was the Protestant Crystal Cathedral.

This is an artist rendering of the final product:

I think I liked the old Protestant version better than the proposed new Protestant final product.

Look on the bright side. The altar is of a decent size, permits celebration in either orientation, and there is easily enough room to celebrate a Pontifical High Mass.

The pulpit/ambo is an anomaly; all right for preaching, but too high and too removed from the altar to make it suitable for reading the lessons.
