The OF Mass would be more in continuity with the EF, if the 6 candles you used for the EF Mass were on the altar (and would look FAR better and give the altar a superior appearance )
It's not the candles that are out of proportion, but the candlesticks which seem to have been designed to stand on the floor. My suggestion would be to arrange them behind the altar, standing on and taking up the width of the platform.
Yes, the see-through wooden 'altar' is ghastly and cries out for an antependium in the litugical colour; it's a relatively cheap way of disguising it. In time a worthy altar can be installed.

I wouldn't say the altar is unworthy, rather disproportionate to the space that is there. I suppose it's brick by brick
