SISTER JANE DOMINIC, THAT GREAT DOMINICAN THREAT TO CATHOLIC HETERODOXY

If you wish to view some of the many videos Sister Jane Dominic has produced, SIMPLY PRESS HERE and go to it!

But here is the rest of the story:

The Dominican sister who gave a presentation on sexuality to students at Charlotte Catholic High School that sparked controversy among students and parents last month is taking a sabbatical from teaching and canceling her other speaking engagements.

In an April 4 statement, the president of Aquinas College defended the school’s curriculum and Sister Jane’s credentials as a theologian, but acknowledged that the portion of Sister Jane’s presentation of social science data about the alleged causes of same-sex attraction – which prompted many of the concerns from parents and students – was outside the scope of her academic background.
The statement reads in part:
“We believe it is our privilege to bring the best aspects of our faith tradition to bear on the moral and cultural questions of the present age. In her presentation, Sister Jane Dominic spoke clearly on matters of faith and morals. Her deviation into realms of sociology and anthropology was beyond the scope of her expertise. Sister is a trained theologian from a Pontifical University and has the credentials to contribute to scholarly bodies of work. This she has done in the past with distinction. The unfortunate events at Charlotte Catholic High School are not representative of the quality of Sister’s academic contributions or the positive influence that she has had on her students. The students at Charlotte Catholic were unprepared, as were their parents, for the topic that Sister was asked to deliver. The consequence was a complete misrepresentation of the school’s intention to bring a message that would enlighten and bring freedom and peace.”

This statement by Aquinas College is akin to "throwing the baby out with the bath water"!

I was not at the talk, but am privy to basic information regarding the so called "inappropriate" portion. Sr. Jane cited stats from CMA (Catholic Medical Association) regarding Homosexual activity and sexual partners, and related topics regarding the Australian Gay couple(pedphilia case), and a personal account of an acquaintance that expressed to her what led him to engage in the "gay" lifestyle.

While not her expertise....all speakers who engage in talks regarding medical and sociological aspects cite stats to give examples of the actual topic. At the same time they may pull current topics, or personal experience to engage the audience further and bring them more
insight.

While in hindsight, and this is more cause of the lack of backing by the Charlotte Diocese, Sr Jane most likely would not have included that section. What is lost now is the true meaning of her message, that was hijacked by those with an agenda. Those with the agenda didn't want to hear her basic talk! I think we can all conclude if the Diocese didn't placate to the masses, and give in to their agenda, Sr. Jane would still be giving her awesome Orthodox talks and teaching at her college. While not the best forum for the final aspects of her talk, the Charlotte Diocese, Charlotte Catholic, and now her College have "thrown the baby out with the bath water", and it truly is a shame!

I guess Christ should have been sent on a sabbatical after what he said in John 6 about eating his body and drinking his blood in order to have everlasting life. It upset many and many of his disciples left him at that point. He spoke of something he had no expertise in as no one had made this claim before.

Sister Jane spoke to our high schoolers last summer and no one went apoplectic. This would be because they have been taught authentic Catholicism by their catechism teachers and via solid homilies by our priests over the years. Not the inoffensive, “whip cream” theology learned at places like the university of Pray Whine and promulgated to our children for the past 50 years.

Perhaps some teachers at this "Catholic" high school should be sent away on sabbatical to get some solid training in authentic Catholic teaching. There are too many of these “false prophets” at our Catholic high schools, not to mention our Catholic universities.

Heck, St. Paul got the crap beat out of him for teaching the truth. This was a virtual example of this by the mal-educated, pro-gay bullies there. The absolute wrong part of this is this pathetic apology and forced sabbatical. Where would Christianity be if Christ and the apostles had to constantly apologize for speaking the truth?

This obsequious apology by Aquinas College, and the placing of Sr. Jane Dominic on leave from teaching and speaking, are pathetic and contemptible, as is her toss under the bus by the Diocese of Charlotte. I have much respect for both the bishop of the Diocese of Charlotte and its vicar for education. But from a distance and without any personal knowledge of the situation there, one wonders whether their reaction in this case could be due to some sort of hidden influence pervasive within the diocese, or whether there is some other explanation that's not obvious.

Aquinas College's response that Sister Jane's "deviation into realms of sociology and anthropology was beyond the scope of her expertise" is nothing more than an ad hominum attack against her. The question is whether or not what she said is true, not whether she is qualified to say what she said. Aquinas would never pander to this secularist notion of "qualifications", but would address the truth of the issue. In his STh he would always use the scholastic method: "Videtur quod...." and list good penetrating reasons against a position, and then offer his contrary position: "Sed contra est...", and then procede to systematically demolish the former reasons. Has this statement from the College shown the reasons for or against the truth of what Sister Jane said in the realm of the so-called social sciences (and I will not get into the issue of whether these are genuine or pseudo-sciences), rather than direct ad hominum attacks against her? This college is not dignified to have the name "Aquinas" attached to it, and Sister Jane should find a better place to teach, one that honestly pursues the Truth. Does anyone have a transcript of what she said, so that we all can discuss this instead of her "qualifications"?
