POKING THE CORONAVIRUS IN THE EYE IN GEORGIA AND SOUTH CAROLINA!

We went out to a restaurant in Richmond Hill for the first time since pandemic pandemonium broke out two and a half months ago. In addition the South Carolina and Georgia beaches are packed with Memorial Day ex-hostages liberated to go to the beach to remember our War Dead, secular All Souls Day.

Pictured Fr. Solomon Kaanan, Seminarian Kevin Braski and yours truly:

But Father, what do you propose the priests, deacons and laity do when the bishops impose a Eucharistic famine on the people again. Truly any protest must come from the laity, the clerics will be disciplined or worse.

Hah! Fr Solomon hangs out where the drinks have antiseptic qualities. He is an excellent leader.

Good to see you having a good time!

This will shatter the progs who post here:

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/us-was-most-prepared-country-in-the-world-for-pandemics-johns-hopkins-study-found-in-2019

Johns Hopkins said the US was the best prepared for the China Flu. Apologies progs?

That we were the best prepared and Trump is still doing such a dismally bad job isn't something to celebrate.

TJM, as an American I am self-critical of our performance. We were woefully under prepared due to neglect of the roles and responsibilities government at each level of the Republic. We have squandered past opportunities to test readiness and plan for contingencies that left us vulnerable to the diverse and divergent guidance of ‘experts’ with 20-20 hindsight. Our economy will be needed to help the world back to active and productive commerce and we had no system in place to protect it and hampered the anemic attempts of the states to protect themselves. The foolish protests of the public health measures by so-called Constitutionalists is, ironically, well founded in a justified distrust of government and the officials who run it.

The menu doesn't look particularly Scottish. Where are the haggis and deep-fried Mars bars?

No poking here much in evidence since nothing much changed last two months, new cases ticking along at steady state average. All which has changed is ventilator and ICU bed available, if required.

Yesterday was first Sunday with public Masses indoors, local attendance pretty much the 20%-30% one would expect with seating constraints, and them more than welcome to ANY seat in opinion of the vast majority.

Restaurants have reopened, obviously reduced crowds due to same both causes, but them far more popular in the main than the Catholic church here, their business is steady from the wider population.

Anonymous k,

The Dem governors in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are doing a terrible job, they run those states, not President Trump. According to your Bible, The New York Times, in an article said that 79 percent of the deaths from the China Flu occurred in Counties Hillary won when they contain only 55 percent of the population. Have a nice day!

TJM, who are you responding to? Anonymous K didn't post any comments yet.

It would probably blow your mind to know I'm a traditionalist.

TJM said...

John Nolan,

LOL! I have never heard of deep fried Mars bars. Having a bit of Scots in me, I will definitely be looking into that "delicacy!"

TJM said...

NAK,

Most traditionalists I know are not detached from reality. Did you take American Civics?

TJM said...

Hey NAK are you this kind of "traditionalist?"

"As President Trump and the rest of the country grapple with an economic downturn and sky-high unemployment rates amid the coronavirus crisis, some Democrats reportedly worry that an explosive economic recovery in the fall could revive Trump’s lagging political fortunes -- and boost his chance at reelection."

Were you thrilled that Nancy Pelosi was shilling for abortion funding amid a pandemic?

NAK, thanks for turning this into a political post, your religious affiliation is beyond doubt, which is secular liberal. Perhaps you might instead bestow the ever so lacking advice on how to experience God without a shadow of a doubt, which is so lacking in your political religion. I would also say the same for many of the "conservatives" where teaching folk how to know and experience God never happens as they are just as ignorant.

Most thinking folks realize the massive and fragmented and career serving political and church leaders have flubbed this, and will continue to flub it as their decisions based mainly on how it damages their careers, and that it makes no difference what "party" had the bad luck to be in power when it hit. It would have played out nearly the same, given the "players".

I think Mars bars are marketed as Milky Way in the USA. Coated in batter and deep fried they have been on sale in Glaswegian fish'n'chip shops for some time. It is no coincidence that Glasgow has the highest rates of heart disease and strokes in Europe.

Haggis is a different matter (McSween's is the best). Lamb's offal (mostly heart and lung) with oatmeal, stuffed into a skin and boiled. Served with neeps and tatties. The best thing to come out of Scotland after whisky.

And the worst? Well, one definition of a gentleman is someone who can play the bagpipes but doesn't.

TJM, I would be surprised to find out if the traditionalists you know are even real people.

Do you feel Catholics are morally bound to never question the Republican Party or Donald Trump? That any criticism means I must be some sort of extreme abortion loving Democrat? Oh right, you must think that because in your mind I'm probably Anonymous K or whomever you complain about every five minutes. I don't follow any political party as my religion or praise any political figure as my God the way you do. Are you cool with keeping kids in cages and telling people it's okay to sacrifice the elderly for the economy? Are you really convinced your religion(Republican Party) will overturn Roe v Wade when upwards of 60% of your fellow party members don't want that to happen.

Bob - no need to thank me. The credit goes to TJM. I'll ignore the rest of your first paragraph, as I've said nothing here to lead you to those conclusions. I agree 100% with your second paragraph. It would be hard for any leader. Where we differ is that I don't think it means we must blindly follow because the leader belongs to the somewhat pro life political party.

If it upsets you and TJM to have your politics questioned, then I will go back to just posting anonymously here only on matters of Catholic faith and liturgy as I have done here for years (those many posts never garnered as much negative attention from you two). I just finally got fed up with TJM screeching "Anonymous K" at people who obviously are not him and dominating every discussion with his political views regardless of topic. Obviously you all like that sort of thing, so I'll leave you to it. You can pat yourselves on the back for outwitting me if you like.

For the last time,
NAK

NAK,

Thanks for reminding me that it was the Obama administration who put kids in the cages. I had forgotten that. I now also remember that when Obama was playing at being a legislator in Illinois he voted against legislation requiring healthcare providers to save a baby who survived an abortion. It was Governor Cuomo put placed thousands of elderly in infected nursing homes and it was Pelosi who was lobbying for funding of abortions during a pandemic. When the Republican Party does all of those things I will become very concerned since there will no longer be a political counterweight to the party that promotes intrinsic evil.

If you are a "traditionalist" I want no part of being "traditional."

John Nolan,

Thanks for cheering me up! I had a heart attack two weeks ago today.

rcg said...

John, Mars bars are available in the US and I have seen them and Snickers bars, basically the same bar with peanuts, fried. I had no idea it came from Scotland first and was surprised to find they were so widely loved. Haggis is another thing altogether and I developed a taste for it. The ‘neeps and ‘tatties’ we had growing up, again I think a sort of culinary convergence rather than a direct link. I understand that you must now have a license of qualify to be allowed to play the pipes in public. But it happens anyway.

Dear NAK....find a single political post of mine. Find me a single post endorsing a candidate or party. I vote for whomever might help protect the most important beliefs and religious practices of my Church. But you will find me not endorsing anyone or any party, the Democrats would take everything I owned and give it away to buy votes, and the Republicans would let me work in a salt mine for 50cents/wk for their pals. I put my trust and faith in nothing manmade.

TJM said...

Bob,

Ah the old moral equivalence argument. Actually until the China Flu struck good paying manufacturing jobs that were "never coming back" according to the Lightbringer were, and wages were rising at their best rates in decades. African-Americans and Hispanics were experiencing their lowest unemployment rates ever. Believe the cartoon depictions of Republicans put out by the national media and DNC if you wish, but they do not reflect reality. You are free to vote for the Party that insists that abortion is an "essential healthcare service" deserving of federal funding during a pandemic. As a Catholic, I never vote for the Party promoting intrinsic evil.

Bob,

I was watching Otto Preminger's The Cardinal tonight. It portrayed the Catholic Church on the even of Vatican Disaster II when the Catholic Church was a great, international Church and not a hallowed out shell of its former greatness. I was shocked between the similarities between the modern Democratic Party and the Nazis. I think "Father" Kavanaugh and his buddy, Anonymous 2, should watch it to see how mistaken and shallow they are. But because they are stuck in their love for modern "culture" they will never get it. Cardinal Galen, the Lion of Munster, would be lost on them. They drool over gutless cowards like "Cardinal" Bernadin and McCarrick.
