SAINT MARY CHURCH, GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA

Aaaaaaah orientem! This is thoroughly Ordinary Form, but within the commonsensical and thoroughly allowed renewal in continuity of Pope Benedict.

How to restore objectivity and reverence to the Novus Ordo:

1. Celebrate 'ad orientem'.
2. Get the celebrant to sing his parts (even, as in this case, in the vernacular).

It's hardly rocket science.

Although the deacon did not offer the pax, most of the congregation did so, but in a restrained manner. No hand-holding at the Our Father. No Extraordinary Monsters. Communion in one kind only. My only quibble would be that although the Missa de Angelis was sung, the Creed was not. Catholics should be able to sing at least Credo III in Latin. They are not going to spend all their lives in South Carolina.
