WOW, EVEN CATHOLIC HOSPITAL CHAPELS WERE EXQUISITE!

St. Francis of Assisi Chapel in Lincoln NE. Used to be a hospital chapel (hospital no longer standing). Thank God they did not tear down the chapel or repurpose it for something else! Can you imagine the solace this gave the in firmed and visitors praying for sick loved ones in that hospital?

This is today’s look:

Looks like it may have been a teaching hospital with Mass for the students and interns.

You can thank good Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz for his vigilance in preserving the faith. It's no wonder that the FSSP is HQed in the Lincoln diocese. If we had more eastern Europeans running things we'd be in better shape with a few exceptions like some Chicago Poles.

This is magnificent. In Chicago, the chapel in Columbus-Cabrini Hospital is also magnificent

Just absolutely stunning, what a Roman Catholic Church should look like! Everything is in place for the Traditional Latin Mass, high altar, communion rail, statues. As a Croatian myself I agree with eastern Europeans being in charge, however the one in charge in “Chicago” happens to be a Croatian Like myself and he is no friend of the TLM, his history in Rapid City proved that.

Yep, I remember Cupich closing the doors of the TLM parish in Rapid City years ago. His hostility towards the TLM was always apparent and like many prelates and priests before Summorum Pontificum always tried to block it. I never understood it was always the older priests and older bishops who were ordained in the old rate that were the most “hostile” to it I could never figure that one out. Years ago I confronted a couple priests about the TLM and why we can’t have it in our parish, they were older and definitely were ordained in the old right, and their anger toward me when I mentioned the TLM was immediate! I was surprised such hatred and venom coming from men who grew up in it if anybody here has an answer as to why the older priests and bishops detest it so much please tell us.

That is beautiful. I hope the Masses there match the church.

Frankly, half the "ugly" churches posted here would be an improvement over what is available in this area within an hour drive one-way, and really more like an hour and a half.

Chip, unless I'm very much mistaken, the chapel is now under the care of the FSSP. I think you can be assured that the Masses match the Church'!

You sure could not accuse Bishop Fabian of being ahead of his time. His diocese, which lacks a permanent deacon formation program, just ordained its first permanent deacon---in 2021?!? Yeah, Lincoln may be the most conservative diocese in the US, but easy to run a conservative diocese in a state like Nebraska. Try doing so in Washington, New York, or Los Angeles. LOL...

And what other Bishop did not allow the audit of sexual abuse cases to take place in his diocese?

Concerned, I believe Lincoln had an audit in 2015 and it revealed the same results as Bruskewitz's internal audits. Even now that the diocese participates in transparency equal to it's peers throughout the US it has far fewer reports of abuse than most of the rest of the country. You can dislike the diocese and its prior bishop if you like but perhaps you could be a bit more transparent on your real reasons.

+Bruskewitz refused to follow the policy that every other bishop in the US followed. The 2015 audit took place under the wise leadership of his successor +Conley.

I have no dislike for +Bruskewitz or Lincoln. I think that +Bruskewitz's intransigence was harmful to the Church in the US.

From the report of the 2014 audit: "We cannot emphasize enough, the harm to the church caused by these compliance issues, as well as nonparticipation,” auditors wrote in the 2014 USCCB report. “What happens in one diocese/eparchy is frequently interpreted as happening in all dioceses/eparchies, and this results in all bishops being wrongly judged. When one diocese/eparchy fails to use all available means to protect children, not only is it perceived as a national phenomenon, but also as a lack of commitment by the bishops to take seriously the charter and the protection of children."

Anon - 8:28 AM. I can tell that you have no dislike for Bishop Bruskewitz. Maybe you should address the hard data rather than a statement made by the USCCB that is also not backed by data. Did he have much less of a problem or not? If he did then congratulate him rather than claim falsely that he was a problem.

IMO the reason older people did and still do today have a hostile reaction to traditional liturgy and moral instruction is that they were always objected to it and when given the chance to revolt they seized the opportunity. The sleazy cultural revolution was a political and moral one and you find out who’s who when the smoke clears.
There are always resentful and spiteful people to what is true and good and when they are suppressed by a strong but just governance, they hate it and want to violently rebel against it. It comes down to the “Give Us Barabbas” rule. Given the choice between Christ and a disgusting piece of trash they chose the trash. Man will always screw things up for himself. Adam and Eve had the choice between a loving God and the paradise he gave to them vs. a magical fruit. We see some of this playing out now. St. John Paul and Pope Benedict kept the liberals in check somewhat, but now there are more of them revealing their true colors like the bishop in Rockford, IL that is expelling good priests. Likely he knew 10 years ago he can’t pull it off but today he’s got Vatican cover and he’s gonna show them rednecks that there’s a new sheriff in town.

Why would a bishop refuse to participate in a national audit that was designed to be part of the process aimed at undoing the harm done by the abuse and the failure of the Church to respond appropriately?

What was he concerned about?
