ANOTHER EASTERTIDE MIRACLE! SEAN MICHAEL WINTERS HAS A GOOD COMMENTARY ABOUT CHICAGO PRIEST, EXCEPT.....

NCR: What is not in doubt is that Pfleger's work in the South Side community he serves has made him a hero to his flock, a champion, someone on their side. Many of the poor people in that part of the city are not used to having someone on their side, let alone an older white man. I find his sermons histrionic and overwrought, but there is no doubting he connects with his flock as few pastors do.

MY COMMENT: That’s Fr.  Pfleger’s problem and it is related to clericalism. He has formed a cult of the personality around himself and in this is not much different than charismatic founders of religious movements or in leadership in the Church, like the founder of the Legion of Christ, and the now former Cardinal and defrocked bishop of Washington!

Other than that, Sean Michael Winters makes good points. Read the NCR article:

Parishes cannot obstruct sex abuse investigations

I think you are spot on. However as much as I do not care for Father Phleger, I remain skeptical of the charges against him. Time will tell. A far worse case is Father Eduard Perrone of Detroit who is being persecuted by his Archbishop after the Vatican vindicated this priest. The Archbishop there should be removed along with his vicious minion

Re Perrone: "Meanwhile, Perrone’s service as a priest is in the hands of the Vatican, said Ned McGrath, an archdiocese spokesman. Until that canonical proceeding is fully resolved, Father Perrone is presumed innocent while restricted from all public ministry. … The Detroit archdiocese continues its call for prayers for all those involved in this matter,” the archdiocese said.

A look at the parish website shows only a worship of the priest. His his apparent successor leading the revolt against the the archdiocese, him studying at the feet of the master his entire priesthood and before.

Some of us feel Fr McDonald’s comments can cross the line of histrionic and personal idolatry at times too!

Must be something that affects celibate old men maybe?

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

Celibate old men is a category to which I have no membership thus leaving me out.

Well you’re definitely old so does that mean you’re not celibate?

Anonymous at 1:30 PM,

LOL!! You believe the persecutor's spokesman? That's like believing McCarrick, Take a look here:

Despite winning a major victory in the Vatican, a Detroit priest will soon be facing disciplinary proceedings from his archbishop.

According to a statement issued by the archdiocese Tuesday, Rome's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) has decided "not to proceed" in the abuse investigation of Fr. Eduard Perrone, after determining there was no substance to the allegations.

"Therefore, no further action can be taken in this case under church law," the archdiocese noted.

"In canon law, that's not just a victory; that's a grand-slam homerun," said Chris Kolomjec, civil attorney for Fr. Perrone, in comments to Church Militant. "It means Rome, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, denied, refused the archdiocese of Detroit the permission to prosecute Fr. Perrone."

Now unpack that statement for us

The trouble with traditionalists is they only believe priests they don’t like are capable of sexual abuse or impropriety.

(your fake name HERE) said...

No, traditionalists go by results of investigation, troll. We LOVE our Church and want it protected. We do not want perverts, unlike Progressives who welcome them unrepentant.

Tom Marcus said...

Well Get Real, I'm a traditionalist and I have seen plenty of priests of ALL stripes fall in the sins of impropriety, sexual abuse and worse.

I really don't think it's useful for ANY of us to try to discredit everyone we disagree with by mocking them here or attempting to define them or put them in some sort of "box" that suits our perceptions or prejudices. Example? Frankly I can't stand the whole Novus Ordo culture of the postconciliar Church. Some of the liturgical nonsense is beyond embarrassing. But every priest and every lay person is an individual and they all come to the Church for varying reasons. Maybe put-downs and mockery work for you, but what works best for me and helps me retain my sanity is to remember that God loves us all and pray for the Church, especially those I disagree with. I've found that I can learn an awful lot about myself from people I don't like and people who don't like me.

Priests are target #1 for Satan. He doesn't care if they are traditionalist, Novus Ordo, Byzantine, orthodox or heretic. ALL will be attacked. ALL are human. ALL are capable of falling. ALL need our prayers.

Just sayin'.

So, Pfather Pfleger's pflock adores him. Will they pfollow him if he's transferred?

Get reall Kavanaugh,

Nice try, most of the perverts were "liberals" like McCarrick. I go to the EF and believe Father Pfleger may be unjustly accused. So say you what?

In my experience, certain “cluster B” personality disorder traits, eg: being histrionic, narcissistic and a dramatic attention seeker etc are much more likely to exist among trendy, liberal priests and Protestant pastors of any age (especially those with a confused sexual identity) than among more traditionalist priests and pastors with conservative values. And I believe traditional Catholic lay people and conservative Protestants (who actually BELIEVE in original sin) are a lot less naive re the possibility of any minister of religion of any denomination being at some time in the future found guilty of sexual improprieties OR financial improprieties OR having a problem with substance abuse and so on....

Off topic, but Ireland is now a totalitarian country. Take a gander at this:

I am sure the Democrats would try this if they thought they could get away with it

To those who have attacked Father McDonald verbally:

Saint John Chrysostom noted:

"...God has bestowed a power on priests greater than that of our natural parents.

"For our natural parents generate us unto this life only, but the others unto that which is to come."

Father McDonald is God's holy priest. We should rally around Father McDonald. Let us pray for Father McDonald.

Fr Phleger should look at the optics of the parish reaction to his accusation. Withholding funds that are owed and unrelated to the charges is disobedient and petty. He is known for speaking out his silence on that subject is telling.
