BOMBSHELL! CHURCH MILITANT PARTIALLY RIGHT

Church Militant, an angry overt thr top rightwing website in semi schism reported last week that Cardinal Wuerl had defected to Rome to escape prosecution in the USA, similar to the late Cardinal Law of Boston. I thought the whole article was one blatant lie, but it turns out it was partially true.

This is from CNN which never prints fake news:

Cardinal Wuerl met with Pope Francis about crisis in D.C. diocese

Washington (CNN)Pope Francis met with embattled Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington last Thursday in Vatican City, where they discussed the cardinal's personal situation, according to a source familiar with Wuerl's presentation to local priests in Washington on Monday.
Wuerl, who is archbishop of Washington, told the priests about the papal meeting, including Francis' advice that the cardinal should consult with his priests as Wuerl discerns his future. That was part of a larger conversation between the Pope and Wuerl, the source said.
Archdiocese of Washington Director of Communications Edward McFadden has said that Wuerl traveled to the Vatican last week, but declined to provide any specifics about the trip. The cardinal is a member of several powerful Vatican offices.
But the 77-year-old Wuerl is facing increasing scrutiny both over what he knew about abuse allegations against his predecessor, former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick in Washington, and how he handled abusive priests while he headed the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Wuerl has "categorically denied" that any information about accusations against McCarrick was ever brought to him. He has also defended his overall record handling of clerical abuse in Pittsburgh, even while acknowledging "errors in judgment."
Still, Wuerl has been under increasing pressure to step down, including calls from prominent Catholics who say that healing in the church requires new leadership. Archdiocesan officials say he does not have plans to resign.
"Cardinal Wuerl has spoken extensively over the past two months, conveyed his profound sadness, apologies and contrition, and addressed every issue as it has arisen in a straightforward and transparent manner," said McFadden, Wuerl's spokeman.

He said he was “deeply saddened”. What more do you rigid neo pharisees want?

No, it wasn't "partially true." It was over the top, hyperbolic, and sinfully dishonest fake news from Church Militant.

That's what makes Church Militant popular among a handful of resentment-filled, echo-chamber loving traditionalists. It tells them what they want to hear.

Traditionalists generally aren't fans of Church Militant because of their absurd and unprincipled refusal to criticize Francis. While CM has now rescinded this policy in light of Francis' complicity in the cover-up of clerical sexual abuse, they have once again missed the mark by failing to realize that it is actually more important to criticize Francis' doctrinal errors than his moral failings since his doctrinal errors undermine the Church's teaching office in its entirety and his moral failings merely undermine him personally (to the extent there is much left in Francis to undermine).

    Anonymous Kavanaugh,

Funny, I believe the National Catholic Reporter fits right with your description, only it's worse because they're heterodox

    Fr. McDonald,
While I would agree that Michael Voris can be "over the top" and is definitely of the "right" in the Catholic spectrum, how is he in "semi_schism"? I watch his videos at times and while I may not always agree with what he says, I have not yet heard anything that I would know to be schismatic. What can you tell me?
On the other hand, my pastor and I have been having a good bit of text and email exchanges regarding the current controversies in the Church and his big emphasis (mostly from National Catholic Reporter articles he sends me and others) is that the problem is CLERICALISM! CLERICALISM! CLERICALISM!! My analysis is that it is largely (80% of abuse victims were male) a problem of sexually active abusive homosexual clergy with others of the same persuasion (or sympathetic or protective for ideological reasons) enabling and/or covering up for them. 'Not completely a gay clergy problem but still, overwhelmingly so.
The root problem is the sexual abuse. The cover-ups and enabling (among the clergy--which could be called a kind of "clericalism"--I prefer clerical cronyism or enabling) is not the root substantive crime. It's kind of like a person who gets caught driving impaired and then tries to flee and avoid arrest or resist being cuffed. The original primary substantive crime is the DUI---the after the fact fleeing or obstruction are just that--after the fact or secondary. Incidentally, one of the NCR articles that my pastor cites states that those who see the root of most of the problem as active homosexuality in the clergy (like myself) are "misinformed individuals". That defies common sense!

    What do you think?

LifeSiteNews promoted the CM fake (lies) news story in question. Has a right-wing blogger/Twitter person ever apologized for the countless lies that the or she has spread so as to defame Pope Francis, as well as additional Churchmen?

    BREAKING NEWS EXCLUSIVE: WUERL BOMBSHELL

    Vatican arranges escape hatch

    by Church Militant

"Church Militant has learned from reliable sources that Pope Francis has directed Cdl. Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C. be spirited out of the United States before Wuerl can be arrested by U.S. federal authorities.

Earlier suspicions were that Wuerl had already left the country but those reports are not true.

As Church Militant has been reporting, the Department of Justice is seriously looking at opening up a RICO investigation against the Catholic Church in the United States, and Wuerl would be one of the prime targets of any such investigation.

According to sources, Pope Francis is afraid that if Wuerl were to be arrested and charged, he would reveal all he knows, and the DOJ case would lead straight back to the Vatican with the looming prospect of international criminality being exposed.

Officials in Rome fear the U.S. federal government might shortly revoke Wuerl's U.S. passport preventing him from leaving the country, and as a result, they are trying to sneak him out of the nation under Vatican diplomatic secrecy.

Wuerl has apparently gone underground, and sources confirm with Church Militant, that it is the Vatican attempting to orchestrate his escape out of the United States.

Church Militant sources in D.C. confirm that Wuerl has completely gone off the grid — his cell phone has been shut off, he has not been in his private apartment for a number of days, all public appearances have been canceled and he has not even shown up for the weekly private confessions he offers for his priests.

Insiders believe he is holed up in a hotel in the greater D.C. metropolitan area while final plans for sneaking him out of the U.S. are executed."

    Ahh..."sources...insiders."

The BREAKING NEWS story is utter trash.

Father McDonald, you are supressing my comments. Should I give up and let MT and Kavanaugh continue with their anti-Catholic BS?

    TIM- In a word, "Yes."

    TJM -

As things are going, with or without my comments, your comments or, those of anyone else, do you feel like it will make a difference besides venting here? We will remain disillusioned, MT will remain in his fluffy, pastel colored world, good priests will continue to be marginalized and, the clergy and hierarchy which make up the illuminati will continue living their lie while at the same time laughing at us as the fools that we evidently are.

    ByzRC,

All of what you say rings true. They may think us fools, but I, who used to contribute thousands annually, no longer do. When I received a card from the Chicago Archdiocese asking for my annual contribution to the Cardinal's Annual Appeal, I returned it with $0 and noted I would contribute when the Archdiocese once again has a Catholic archbishop. I note Legatus, a group of wealthy Catholic laymen, is now withholding their annual ( I would assume sizeable) contribution to the Holy See. I remain in the Church, but with my eyes wide open. I no longer assume the priest or bishop I am dealing with is honorable or Catholic.
