LET ME RESTATE THE PREMISE I DECLARED A WEEK OR SO AGO ABOUT CHURCH MILITANT

emoji request
I believe Church Militant is secretly funded by the various cabals of loony, heterodox, aging, hippie liberals and progressives, maybe own by them, to make traditional, orthodox and common sense Catholics look really silly and frazzled and crazy.

Don't take them seriously and call them out for their mortal sins of slander, libel, exaggeration, lies, detraction, gossip, and other mortal sins associated with the 4th and 8th commandments and others not to mention the deadly sins.

Can you give us some examples? These are pretty broad accusations.

Why have you reached this conclusion about who funded them?

If Mike Voris seems over the top sometimes, it's understandable. Read about what happened to his brother.

Sinner in the hands of an angry God?!

I don't know how ChurchMilitant is funded, but this post sounds about as hysterical as the Vortex sometimes does.

Father I thought it was the total opposite between the e-book that Mike Jones wrote as well as a review one year later online where the reviewer does talk about Opus Dei structure and even gives more background on Michael Voris’ past connection to Opus Dei, that it was conservative cultists/looneys backing Voris (that is until he came out as gay.)

As for me. I understand anger at the Church. It comes from a broken heart.

ChurchMilitant operates like the National Anti-Catholic Reporter: two sides of the same coin

It is pretty widely understood that the operation is backed by a wealthy person associated with an FSSP apostolate. Among other things, Voris was found to have substantially borrowed from a sermon by an FSSP priest in own of his screeds against the SSPX, asserting the lack of ordinary jurisdiction for confessions and marriages (a topic that comes up rather often in FSSP sermons, in my limited experience).

It had been the case that Voris's spiritual director was a well-known Opus Dei cleric who had his own fledgling social media apostolate several years ago.

I have a friend, a Catholic so seriously committed she puts me to shame at times. She is faithfully obedient to the Church and Her clerics. But, she is such a Michael Voris fan (and you, Fr., are not) that I googled him to see what’s up. The Wikipedia article is very long & interesting. But most interesting was a book review done by a priest back in February, whose views I tend to trust. Excerpted here is the conclusion:

“The last thing I’d observe is this: it is all too easy for the establishment church to mock, ignore and marginalize people like Voris. They do so at their peril because, like him or loathe him, Voris is not only like Savonarola–he is also like Donald Trump. That is to say, he has a media presence. He knows how to go directly to his audience, and his growing audience are the same kind of people who like Trump–the little middle people who feel they have been mocked, ignored and marginalized by the liberal elite, the establishment church and the privileged classes.

The ruling establishment in Washington, New York, Chicago and Rome should not underestimate how fed up many people in the pews really are. Many of them want their shepherds to stand up and speak out against the immorality, corruption and heresy in the church. That’s why they like Voris and his militant attitude.

These are the people who bring about renewal, but they are also the people who bring about Reformations and Revolutions.

Voris therefore, might just be one of the firebrands who helps brings about a schism in the church.

And how are you going to get rid of him? Burn him in the town square?”

Since when was exaggeration a mortal sin? Hyperbole is a useful literary device. And there is also a place for polemical writing.

Since the world is full of professional offence-takers, it's refreshing to find those who aren't afraid to be offensive.

The besetting sin of modern times is pusillanimity - not having the courage of one's convictions. Thus we have priests who passionately argue for 'ad orientem' celebration as an antidote to bad and subjective liturgy, but will not implement it until their bishop tells them to - which they know full well he won't.

One has to admire those Anglo-Catholic priests of the late 19th and early 20th centuries who introduced such 'papist' practices as auricular confession, statues and eucharistic vestments in the teeth of episcopal hostility.

One incident prompted Hilaire Belloc to write his 'Ballad of Illegal Ornaments' which is well known but bears repeating here. The bishop had objected to 'a female figure with a child'.

When that the Eternal deigned to look
On us poor folk to make us free,
He chose a Maiden, whom He took
From Nazareth in Galilee;
Since when the Islands of the Sea,
The Field, the City and the Wild
Proclaim aloud triumphantly
A Female Figure with a Child.

These Mysteries profoundly shook
The Reverend Doctor Leigh, D.D.,
Who therefore stuck into a Nook
(or Niche) in his Incumbency
An Image filled with majesty
To represent the Undefiled,
The Universal Mother - She -
A Female Figure with a Child.

His Bishop, having read a book
Which proved as plain as plain could be
That all the Mutts had been mistook
Who talked about a Trinity,
Wrote off at once to Doctor Leigh
In manner very far from mild
And said 'Remove them instantly!
A Female Figure with a Child!'

ENVOI

Prince Jesus, in mine Agony,
Permit me, broken and defiled,
Through blurred and glazing eyes to see
A Female Figure with a Child.

I don't peruse Church Militant very often, but to me, it does at times read like a Catholic version of the National Enquirer.
There is, in my opinion, a little too much of the "sensationalist" journalistic approach.
There is truth in what is on there though.

Better to go to Fr. Dwight Longenecker's web site. (he doesn't outright dismiss everything on CM).

If nothing else, all this should spur us to double down on our praying and fasting.
