AT THE GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS, MICHAEL KEATON WITNESSES TO HIS MOTHER'S CATHOLIC FAITH

When Pope Saint John Paul II visited Columbia, South Carolina in the late 1980's, I made a pilgrimage there with parishioners from Savannah. It was an inter-faith liturgical service and Michael Keaton was selected to read one of the Scriptures. It took place at the University of South Carolina's outdoor stadium. It was the summer and temperatures were in the upper 90's. It was sweltering!

At any rate, Michael Keaton's Catholicism has impacted his life and worldview and it is good to see actors witnessing to their Faith even if it might marginalize them with some in Hollywood.

Why have we switched from saying "Holy Bible" and "Biblical lesson/passage" to saying "Scripture" and "reading a scripture"? It seems like the move from "unction" to "anointing", "Holy Ghost" to "Holy Spirit", "congregation" to "assembly", etc. It seems like change just for the sake of change.

And you hardly ever hear anybody say "whilst" or "whence". There's probably a liberal conspiracy going on.

I lived in Columbia, SC a few years after the 1987 interfaith service in Columbia---Columbia has to be one of the hottest cities on earth---in 1993, 3 weeks in a row where the temperature broke 100. Augusta, Macon and Columbia are highly competitive in the summer heat index!!!!

Keaton has always been one of my favorites. I knew nothing about his personal life, but now I like him more. He's certainly been an underrated actor. It's nice to see him get much deserved recognition.
