This sort of thing is the reason I have parished-hopped in the past. Not that I ever saw this exact sort of thing, but this sort of inappropriate behavior on the part of clergy is why I leave a parish. I never complain before I go, because I think, if you don't already know what is not appropriate, you're not going to take correction from me, that's for sure.
And Archbishop Chaput will do nothing. He will not discipline the deacon or the pastor. He will not Apologize to faithful Catholics who were scandalized. But just let some assistant pastor in Philadelphia say Mass facing the east wearing a fiddleback, he would receive a call from the 2’s within ten minutes. Shameful. Just like the Philadelphia priest who liked to say Mass poolside surrounded by shirtless teenage boys in bathing suits.

And this is the problem, IMO. No Faith is immune from clergy who make ill-formed choices. However, the role of the bishop is to safeguard the faithful from scandal and preserve inviolate the faith and worship of the Church. Without this shepherding, scandals only grow in number and audacity. What makes even notable Catholic "conservative" bishops unable to maintain basic Christian discipline over their flocks? This speaks to systemic problems in the Latin Church.
