WOW! BEING SUPER FLEXIBLE ABOUT DOCTRINE AND MORALITY, TO THE POINT OF CHANGING BOTH SOUNDS LIKE RECIPIE FOR SCHISM AND APOSTACY, NO?

I lived through the 60's in my mid to late 1970's seminary in Baltimore. And yes, back then theologians were suggesting not only changing Church discipline, like the order of the Mass and the Sacraments, but also doctrine and morality. Sexual morality was their obsession then and it appears to be so even today.

But, Pope (now Sainted) Paul VI would have nothing to do with changing doctrine. He was the pope after all and he knew that the Church could change discipline but not doctrine or morality or natural law that leads us to doctrine and morality.

Pastoral outreach to those in irregular situations is another questions but even there pastoral theology can enable the abuse of the natural and moral law and yes, abuse of people in irregular situations, like priests sent off for treatment of their sexual immorality and perversions to be returned to ministry only to abuse time and time again, not to mention, opening them to God's eternal judgement. But I digress.

You can read this incredible article about a Jesuit bishop in Europe. And yes, it is incredible and that there is no rebuke of a kind of "Custodis Traditionis" authoritative type document written against this sort of divisiveness in the Church is incredible and eye opening.

Luxembourg Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, a Jesuit who leads the pan-European Catholic bishops' conference, has called for a change in the church's teaching on homosexuality.

In an interview with Germany's Catholic News Agency (KNA), the president of the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) said he considered the church's assessment of homosexuality relationships as sinful to be wrong.

"I believe that the sociological-scientific foundation of this teaching is no longer correct," Hollerich said. The cardinal said it was time for a fundamental revision of church teaching, and suggested the way Pope Francis had spoken about homosexuality in the past could lead to a change in doctrine.

In terms of pastoral theology, I do think it is appropriate to treat all Catholics equally, meaning the call to chastity given one's state in life, the nature of human sexuality, from natural law, Scripture and Tradition. Anthropology, sociology and psychology are secular fields that should reflect Scripture and Tradition and Natural Law, but not inform these three. this is where I think the good Cardinal may well be leaning towards heresy if not apostasy.

We must acknowledge that people find support, love and economic benefits from living together and that includes gay people as well as straight. It includes convents and monasteries and rectories and people who have roommates.

A truly pastoral theology would support the good in these relationships, if there are any and challenge anything that offends God and the Church, the common good. Chastity for gay people is possible just as it is possible for heterosexual couples in invalid unions or no legal union to live as "brother and sister". Why are we allowing the gay culture to have privileges that the straight culture isn't given?

Father McDonald,

We went from being asked to tolerate gays to being forced to accept their lifestyle and God help you if you don't. Heard about the cake baker cases?

The bishop is about to be outed.

Father McDonald,

A lot of parallels between what is going on in the Church and the US federal, state and local governments. As noted by the President of El Salvador:

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele tweeted out on Monday wondering if there’s a deliberate plan to destroy the United States from within.

“Is there a deliberate plan to destroy the United States from within? Why are the authorities and some of the media not even commenting on this things? Why are they letting their beautiful cities rot?” President Bukele tweeted.

Coming out of the closet and the woodwork. Will the HF replace this "bishop"?

John, doubtful. He will likely be promoted to be prefect of the Holy Office (or whatever they call it now).

Nothing will be done. I am convinced that the majority of church officials, from the top down, are blackmailable, all have either done something or enabled something or some one and did nothing looking the other way. And good priests are cancelled for speaking out, what a mess we are in, Satan has done his work well. We need a Pope Charles Martel to fix the mess, but looking at the current crop of Cardinals and bishops I don't see a lot of hope. Afraid of Tradition but blind to the lunacy in their midst, or approving. And Francis has a lot of baggage.

Many years ago, our late Bishop Raymond Lessard instructed the priests of the Savannah diocese that the pastoral art integrates the twin virtues of fidelity and compassion, referring to Christ Jesus, our faithful and compassionate High Priest. "Twin virtues" means they operate together and can never contradict each other in their application by a good pastor of souls, who imitates the supreme Good Pastor. Our Lord Jesus said, "You will live in my love if you keep my commandments just as I have kept my Father's commandments and live in His love." Fidelity to God in truth and charity is the foundational virtue of the good pastor, who also, like Christ Jesus, has "compassion for erring sinners," that twin virtue reflecting divine charity. The problem today among many misguided souls, clergy and laity alike, is their false sense of compassion. They try to change Christ's teaching on the commandments in order to be more "compassionate." Thus, by contradicting God's divine Word, they become unfaithful and show themselves as wolves in sheep's clothing, devouring their flocks and leading souls to hell with them. Sodomy is always a sin against nature and against chastity; it has been since the Book of Genesis. Any bishop who says otherwise is a judas priest. God have mercy on his soul! - Father Michael Cerrone
