The contiuning Latinizatin of the Catholic Eastern churches - in this case, the neo- or post-Vatican II version with its innovations of women acolytes and readers.

I would wonder how common the female role prior to the great exodus/slaughter of those remaining. This might he driven by neccessity of lack of males willing to serve, same as is often the case in USA parishes.

It was not because of a lack of men to serve as acolytes and lectors (there were plenty of men (ordained and lay) at the Chaldean Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with Pope Francis as the chief concelebrant; illustrating another neo- (or post-Vatican II) Latinization - namely, ad populum (facing the people) rather than ad orientem (toward the East), the traditional manner of most Eastern churches (both Catholic and Orthodox).
