TEXAS GOVERNOR RESCINDS MASK MANDATE

California disagrees. North Dakota, Montana and Iowa agree with Texas. Florida overjoyed. 100% of businesses may open now in Texas.

100% opposite of what White House wants.

Will Nanny state win or will adults who are adults win?

Do you want to live in a Nanny state like California or an adult state like Texas?

Who wins? Ask the 516,425 who have died of Covid.

Texas - Adult State? Can't keep the power and water on.

Living in the past as you are, you ignore science, an effective vaccine now and herd immunity. Live the future and get out of the past.

Amarillo K,

All you offer is snark. Go to confession

The Past... As if 516,425 deaths should be forgotten. Tell that to the mother and fathers, husbands and wives, children and friends of the dead.

The vaccine is, thank God, effective. It is NOT the silver bullet that allows everyone to discard masks and behave as if tens of millions are not yet vaccinated, that those who have been vaccinated might be asymptomatic spreaders (SCIENCE), and that the vaccines do not provide 100% protection (SCIENCE).

I'll live the present and suggest you do the same.

And I'll stick, as always, with the science and not your foolishness.

The power issue in Texas was related to dedication to so called alternative power sources and power grid contracts. It would be interesting to see the demographics on deaths from COVID in TX. I expect it would not support a statewide mask mandate or lockdown.

Armadillo Slam, we won’t have another half million a year from now as we have an effective vaccine and apart from that Hurd immunity. It is a new day. Your fear is submerged in the past. Have courage and cross that toad even if armadillos get slammed by cars doing so.

we have been open since last June, and no statewide mask mandate, and no difference in cases or fatalities here vs anywhere with draconian mandates. No difference in this town with mask mandate and rest of county without mandate, except the town has a far higher percentage of population catching it, likely from all the face touching. We have such a high percentage in town that herd immunity is showing, no more than a couple of diagnosed cases a day, down from 25-50, now 1-3, July numbers.

If I understand Armadillo correctly, since 500K people died, we should never lift the restrictions. SCIENCE says so!

Rank in deaths per million from COVID - Georgia 21st,Texas 24th, and Florida 27th.
The top four are New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

Texas is an adult state? I'd give that more credence if they did not have Ted Cruz as one of their senators...

And so where does Georgia fit in? Not like Georgia is "anything goes" when it comes to the COVID response. Would my parish in 30327 be "adult" if we made masks optional at Mass.

The world governments pass the anniversary of this epidemic still unable to develop an acceptable response. The expert class has failed almost uniformly to find a practical solution area where the god of science can work with the harlot of politics to guide the people to safety. There are no single solutions and there is no single policy or law that solves this situation, but only sets of behaviors that equip the population to manage the disease in their communities. The failure of elected leaders has be a disaster.

Anonymous K at 10:13 PM,

Stop with your political hackery. You have about 1/10 the brain cells of Ted Cruz, whom Alan Dershowitz said was among his most brilliant students. He never said that about your god, Obama. Now go to confession

Amarillo K's idea of "science" is abortion = healthcare.

Anonymous K at 10:13 pm,

Alan Dershowitz said Ted Cruz was among his most brilliant students, he never said that about Obama. Andrea Mitchell failed miserably when she attempted to do battle with Cruz. She lost.

Look on the other side of the Senate aisle and you will see a lot of puerile non serious Senators like Mazie Hirono and Patty Murphy to name just a couple

At least Anonymous/Amarillo "K" USES the brain cells he has, which can't be said for the likes of Cancun Cruz.

Anonymous at 10:05 AM,

Using Dem/Media talking points is using his brain cells? LOL

Amarillo K,

Did your "news" sources tell you a about this? Doesn't sound very "social justice like" to me:

President Joe Biden, in a recent CNN town hall, characterized the Chinese Communist Party's mass genocide against the Uyghurs as different cultural "norms."

"And so the idea that I'm not going to speak out against what he's doing in Hong Kong, what he's doing with the Uyghurs in [the] western mountains of China...he gets it," Biden said of Chinese President Xi Jinping. "Culturally there are different norms that each country and their leaders are expected to follow."

I'll listen to the doctors, too numerous to count, so say that masks work and that masks are still necessary.

Anonymous,

There is no scientific consensus on masks, but as a courtesy to others I wear one, when appropriate!

As for masks, and science, the study in Nature this past year holds true, they found coronavirus did not spread via mouth except when coughing or sneezing, and THEN a SEALED mask around face helped.

None of the masks worn today are certified, they are not sealed, and essentially a huggy blanket for the wearer, and a butt cover for politicians, not to mention a danger to wearers touching contaminated surfaces and then constantly touching face.

This is very real to me as I cannot wear a mask due to lung damage from a career wearing various respirators in immediately fatal environments, where I also know using a mask such as used today would have had a company shut down and fines for using such a year and a half ago, due to known ineffectiveness.

We have exceeded 1 in 4 officially diagnosed in this area, and I have dodged it to date by following the original CDC guidelines quite strictly, while those counting on masks have fallen ill right and left.

I will continue to follow those common sense, proven through decades of medical and industrial experience, guidances. I think anybody anywhere trying to act as if this does not exist is being foolish, and anyone who thinks reopenings without restriction and dropping mask mandates means behave as if the virus does not exist, is an utter fool.

But draconian official measures have done about zero to stave off the run through the population which this virus has accomplished, no matter where one goes. The key to safety is following those original guidelines as best as possible which most have not done. And this is something I fear is being overlooked on both sides of this issue. It takes using common sense, something in extremely short supply on both sides.

My "God" is not Obama (I never voted for him), and I am not "Anonymous K." I have never met him and would not recognize him if he passed me on the street. Cruz only won by two and a half points last time. Didn't Trump at one time call him "Lyin' Ted?" And what makes you so knowledgeable about the number of brain cells I have? I certainly will not be going to confession to repudiate what I said earlier.

Anonymous at 10:08 PM,

You write like an Anonymous K clone, a person with a visceral hatred of Republicans and President Trump. So Cruz is less adult-like than Mazie and Patsy?

In 'Unconditional Surrender', the final novel in his 'Sword of Honour' trilogy, Evelyn Waugh describes the drab civilians in 1943 London still carrying the gas masks they had been issued with four years earlier. It was admitted that they would have been useless against any gas the enemy might have deployed, yet they had symbolic value - the badge of a nation at war.

I was reminded of this the other day observing people wearing face masks in situations where they are not required; walking in the open air or driving alone in their cars. Excessive timidity? In some cases, perhaps. But like the gas masks of 1943 I suspect that their value is mainly totemic, signalling that the wearer is engaged in the war against COVID.

No-one carried a gas mask after VE Day, but I'll bet a pound to a penny that when all COVID restrictions have been lifted many of these poor souls will be loath to discard their muzzles.

I'll take that bet for 10,000 pennies.
