CONNECT THE DOTS INFIDELS.

Prior to Vatican II, the vast majority of Catholics attended Mass each Sunday and the vast majority of those Catholics believed it was not possible to change the Church although in areas of discipline adjustments could be made and dispensations could be had on this, that or the other that did not impinge of Divine Law or defined doctrine.

But Vatican II was that Pandora’s Box flung open to change and the expectation of change among a great number (I don’t believe a majority) of clergy, religious and laity who thought if one thing could change, like changing the Mass almost overnight, other things could change, like the prohibition against artificial birth control.

Pope Paul VI grew this expectation among Catholics itching for change in the “new and improve” 1960’s where everything was changing and made new and improved. Paul VI organized a committee to assist him  in making a decision about easing the moral law prohibiting artificial contraception. And many on the committee advocated for it. And you know what, the very pope who opened the hopes for a modern sexual ethic in the Church slammed the door shut with Humanae Vitae.

And Catholics began to drift away from the sacraments and the Church, many stopped coming to Mass. And those who hated all the changes, overwhelmed by misinformation handed to them that everything could and would changed, drifted away too.

And now we have a kind of clone of Paul VI who himself opens the door to change and then slams it shut. Pope Francis did that this week by saying the Church can’t bless mortal sin and thus can’t bless same sex unions simply because some good might be accomplished in a lifestyle dedicated to mortal sin, meaning sodomy.

We’re not talking about two chaste men or two chaste women living in the same house, no matter their sexual orientation. We are speaking about two or more people of the same sex living together for the purpose of illicit sex. That’s what they want blessed, not them as persons, but their illicit sex. They don’t want the Church to call it for what it is, fornication and sodomy. That’s what the Church can’t bless.

And there is no need to bless unions that are not true sacramental marriages as though these unions or partnerships are “like” marriage or are “marriages”. Individuals may be bless, no matter who they are, for examples those who attend Mass and remain for the Final Blessing. It is extended to all, even the non baptized who might be present. It is the blessing of persons, not their sins.

But more people will leave the Church over this, because expectations are that change can and will happen to  just about anything that she (Holy Mother Church) wants to change because they think the Church is a social institution subject to the same laws as secular institutions that must change if they are to survive.

And Pope Francis’ progressive ideologies encourage this kind of thinking. Rather than making clear what the moral law is and then leaving it up to others in pastoral ministry to sort through various pastoral concerns, he starts with the exceptions. He supports secular civil unions. Mixed messages does a mess make.

But the Church is one Divine Instituion with two natures human and divine. It is no secular institution and thus will survive without major changes that infidels demand. That’s a grace from God.

This is a very good general summary of the (post) Vatican II debacle that alienated so many faithful Catholics.

But I also wonder if such turn off away from the Church was also not due to more local spread by bishops and parish priests, who had their own views about what Vatican II was all about and what the new catholic faith and morality entailed for the faithful. Placing picnic tables as altars in what used to be holy sanctuaries, playing down the Real Presence in favour of community bonding and group therapy, and deprecating rules of the faith, such as the necessity of weekly Mass attendance and fasting, had an unmeasurable negative impact on the faithful's understanding of the Church as guardian of Truth.

In this respect, I have been wondering the further damage to the faith that the recent closing down of churches had during this so-called Covid-19 pandemic. If anything, vulnerable people needed the Eucharist and Confession more. For young people, who have virtually no risk, or healthy people under 70, who have very little risk, likely for the first time in their Catholic lives they were unable to receive the sacraments, or attend Mass weekly which at one time was considered a sure way to get to hell and a mortal sin, as were (are?) sodomy and fornication. Is going to Mass weekly still optional, and if not why not?

Vic -

Can you cite examples of "picnic tables" replacing altars? Now, I'm talking about picnic tables, not just those altars you personally don't care for.

What bishop played down the Real Presence while encouraging "group therapy?" Again, not something you just THINK happened but actaully did.

What bishop tiold his flock that Seunday/Holy Day Mass was deprecated?

You, like the Blog Owner, dabble not infrequently in the absurd and the hyperbolic. By doing so you undercut the value of this and any other argument yuo might make.

From the beginning of his Pontificate to date, Pope Francis' declarations in regard to homosexuality have been clear and orthodox.

Mark Thomas,

Really? What has the pope done to discipline the gay clerics engaged in a cocaine fueled sex orgy in the Vatican. Statements, facts please!

Yeah Mark...after all, who are we to judge?

And we all know how "orthodox" those civil unions are!

LOL!

The spin that homosexuals are stunned and outraged suddenly at Pope Francis' rejection of homosexual unions is preposterous.

The homosexual lobby, condemned by His Holiness in 2013 A.D., has...

-- Long known that Pope Francis has upheld Church teaching in regard to homosexuality.

-- Has issued statements that have denounced Pope Francis' teachings in regard to homosexuality.

Example: In regard to Pope Francis' January 2015 A.D. denunciation of same-sex unions, DignityUSA said:

-- Gay Catholics “Disturbed and Disappointed” by Pope’s Remarks in Philippines, Strongly Differ with his Suggestion that Support for Gay Marriage is “Ideological”

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS — “DignityUSA is disturbed and disappointed by Pope Francis’ remarks in the Philippines referring to support for same-sex marriage as ‘ideological colonization…that is trying to destroy the family,’” said the organization’s Executive Director, Marianne Duddy-Burke.

LGBTQ Nation, February 6, 2015 A.D.'

-- Pope Francis urges Slovakia to vote ‘yes’ on referendum to restrict gay rights

"Slovakia's anti-gay marriage movement has received massive support from the Catholic Church, and Pope Francis this week even gave his blessing to the referendum in an address on St. Peter's Square."

The above news articles are six years old. Said news reports demonstrate that the homosexual lobby has known for years that Pope Francis opposed same-sex unions.

Mark Thomas,

Again, why can’t you answer a simple question about your Golden Calf. What has Pope Francis done to discipline the gay clerics in the Vatican who engaged in a cocaine fueled gay sex orgy? Your cutting and pasting non sequiturs does not cut it or let you off the hook

Is American Catholicism morphing into Unitarian Universalism? It seems to me that is the end game of Vatican 2.

Hey Mark Thomas, I found this on another scandal PF ignored:

Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, a former papal ambassador who has accused Pope Francis of covering up sex abuse, has stated that the Vatican’s third most powerful prelate, Archbishop Peña Parra, was never given an “open and thorough investigation” for troubling accusations of sex abuse that date back decades. Archbishop Viganò said the high-ranking prelate was not investigated despite the existence of what he calls a “terrifying dossier” sent to Pope Francis that gives names and dates regarding his alleged misbehavior.
