I was the only blogger who correctly called yesterday’s hospital visit a “euphemism.” Am I correct today calling today’s abdominal surgery to repair a hernia, a euphemism.
Jesuitical Father Thomas Reese wrote yesterday that “hardline” conservatives, a euphemism for Orthodox Cardinals, are doing background checks on cardinals appointed by Pope Francis in view of the upcoming conclave to elect a new pope. They want to dig up dirt.
I have been concerned that Pope Francis may not have done due-diligence in looking into the background of cardinals he has made, worried that we could very well get a “McCarrick” type pope at the next conclave.
Jesuitical Father Thomas Reese scoffed at the Orthodox Cardinals for initiating such a thing as to dare look for dirt in the lives of cardinals named by Pope Francis. It isn’t anything to scoff at! The Orthodox Cardinals are doing the work of the Holy Spirit in this kind of due-diligence!

Father McDonald, if I have Father Reese's column in question (March 16, 2023 A.D.):
Father Reese said: "There are even rumors that “opposition research” is being done to dig up dirt on cardinals who might continue down Francis’ path."
The key word is "...rumors..."
Thank you.
